Is it just me or has the quality that we we getting from the Pak/Kuder Action Comics starting to dip? I understand it was Scott Kolins as the artist with #32 and not Kuder, but Kolins seems to be trying to replicate Kuder's styling. Somehow, Superman's uniform seems to be turning into armor, his chest symbol seems to be a raised plate instead of part of the fabric, and Superman seems to not have had a haircut since Action #26. The color palate seems to be changing as well with the different colorers.
But my real complaints come with two issues spoken about by Bob and Stephanie.
Firstly, Bob is right! Compare Wonder Woman, Lana, and Lois. Superman's current girlfriend is drawn to obviously be the most beautiful of all the women. Her depiction on page 5 is laughable. Gravity would not allow her to fly in that position. Her response to help Superman is to make sure everyone can clearly see down her top at all times. Lana is drawn so badly, she is hard to look at. Her attraction in the past issues has been that she stands toe to toe with Clark, she is the smartest person in the room, and she is beautiful without really worrying about being beautiful. She seems to figure out something is wrong with the ailing citizens of Smallville, but that concludes with the buxom Wonder Woman saying basically she'll take it from here (thanks brainy girl, but we have no more time for you). To top it off, we get a Lois that is basically trying to kill Superman. I know he asked her to save the public from him, but the Lois I know would do everything possible to help Clark. She decides to get behind her dad's plan of sending and armored kamikaze to destroy Clark. Also, Lois is drawn to definitely be second fiddle to Wonder Woman.
Secondly, Stephanie is right! Events!!!!!! All the momentum Action had going has come to a halt with this storyline. I don't hate the story, but it just doesn't have the heart behind it the previous issues had. Action became good with Pak because of the heart he gave Clark and the ability to display his power set like no one I had seen in sometime. None of that exists in this event. Furthermore, I have to buy two other books to get the whole story? I don't think so.
This crossover needs to end ASAP, and Pak and Kuder need to get back to what made Action a must buy title.
