I guess this can be a place to discuss Gail Simone, but I created this thread because I need help finding things to read by Gail Simone. I have read her Secret Six miniseries, I have read some Batgirl but I just couldn't get into them. I didn't think they were bad, but I'd never read it again or recommend it. BUT. BUT. I find her as a person, whether in interviews or just her hilarious Twitter posts, to be really fun and interesting and I WANT to read more of her work. Is there anything I'm missing? I keep wanting to give The Movement but I'm always releuctant to pick up a trade of hers in case I don't like it. Also Tomb Raider, but comic adaptations of games and films are generally pretty hit or miss.

Benjamin, My first instinct on recommending works by Gail Simone would be to tell you to pick up her initial run on Birds of Prey, which began with issue #56 of that series, but the trades are OOP at this point; her Wonder Woman run has been collected in trade, and is still available, and depending on how you feel about the genuine "Old 52" Amazon Princess, that's not a bad starting point either. However, I think that you're the perfect audience for Ms. Simone's Red Sonja series! Even if you aren't familiar with the character, you can jump right in and have a good time! Sonja is marvelously written, with a wry sense of humour to go with her appetites for all sorts of things, and as you can imagine, there's quite a bit of action, too! The first arc just concluded, with a trade already out on the stands, so you have the option of starting with the first arc, or the first three issues of this second one. Hope this helped! Bob

Bob I think I had the same reluctance with Gail Simone's works. She has an awesome social media presence and seeing all her twitter and tumblr posts makes me want to read all of her works but she's a hit or miss writer with me. I fell out of reading new 52 Batgirl and I'm still on the fence with reading the Movement in its entirety. However, Bob's recommendation is spot on because I took a chance on Red Sonja and ended up really digging it. I also read Tomb Raider but like Benjamin said, it's really hit or miss.

As i've said before i loved her Secret Six run, even though i still need to read ten issues or something like that. I started reading her Red Sonja a couple of weeks ago and i agree that its really enjoyable and very well written. But for some reason i couldn't get into her Batgirl run but maybe i need to give that another chance someday.

From the first pannels of Black Canary commenting on her fishnets to the uneasy yet natural partnerships... If more comics were written with that much heart... there would be less complaints on the internet.

Down the road, Brad, you might want to check out Ms. Simone's Wonder Woman, where in issue #34 there is this exchange between Dinah and Diana that speaks to the human qualities she gives to her characters...not to mention the good humour!

Brad, You won't be disappointed! I like your cross-over story! I'd do a second issue and add Oracle, Wonder Woman, Sue Storm, She-Hulk and Spider-Woman and make it a poker party!

Who would win?

Brad, We'd have to say that using super-powers is against the "House Rules"...after all, Sue could make the pips on the cards disappear! So in a "straight game" of Texas Hold 'em, despite a table full of very smart and capable women, and although it's hard to pick against either a lawyer or a USAF Colonel, I'd have to go with Barbara Gordon and her eidetic memory; after all, knowing every card played or remaining is a big help!

Ah great point. Babs would win... but this being a comic there would be an emergency that would put an end to the game before Babs got to lay the cards down
