I am not sure if this is the right place to put this, but here I go..
WHERE ARE ALL THE COMIC BOOK VIDEO GAMES?!
I remember like it was yesterday me and my two brothers sitting around our parents television playing our brand new Sega Genesis that we got for Christmas. We had just got the new X-Men video game and we were more excited than ever to play it. It was a platformer set in various X-men locations that i recognized from the comic and cartoon series like the Danger Room and the Savage Land.
We played this game for HOURS. I remember the first time we saw Arch Angle fly across the screen or Ice Man do his Ice Slide across the screen. These games were amazing and SUPER hard. We also had some other fun platformers such as Super Star Wars for the SNES and that game was crazy fun. A few years later we got X-Men 2: Clone Wars for the genesis and again the game was crazy fun. Who remembers the Spider-man & Venom: Maximum Carnage game for the SNES?
These companies didn't need GIANT blockbusters to release a video game that has characters like Black cat, Cloak and Dagger, Morbius, Firestar, Captain America, Deathloc and Iron Fist. They were taking stories straight from the comics and making video games out of them. Why can't we get this? What happened to these types of games? The 3DS and Vita would be a perfect home for these type of games. I would kill for some old school platformer/beat-um ups. Remake the classics or create some new ones.
I know we sorta got this with Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2, but that's about it, and how long ago was that? Now we have to settle for the LEGO games. It's sad that when I walk into a GameStop they only super hero game based off of a comic book is just a Lego game and 2-3 others in the last 15 years. Ultimate Alliance was fun, so was X-Men Origins:Wolverine and Deadpool, but that was about it for me. Avengers is arguably the biggest movie in years and there was nothing.
Please comment below and let me know if you guys and gals have any of the same fond memories of these classic games.
