I mentioned this in a thread regarding first comics ever read, but The Phantom was the first comic book I ever picked up. I was 5 years old and was buying for years after that. Not sure how far Frew publications reaches around the world as its an Australian publisher, but the Frew Phantom comics were and still are really great stories and it surprises me that this character isn't more mainstream. Such an amazing origin/backstory. There could be countless iterations. With the legacy of the Phantom being a father to son generational thing, it could be treated like Assassins Creed, with stories told from all era's. And with so many great writers in comics I have no doubt this character could be brought back into the spotlight. And can I just say I love the Billy Zane movie. Never understood why everybody thought it was so terrible. I watched it recently and in tone and style it doesn't feel any different from Captain America:The First Avenger.
Anyway, just hoping there's anyone else out there who feels the same about this character and if they know of any other great stories from other publishers as I know DC and Marvel did their own series as well as Moonstone publishers but they barely even have any reviews online let alone availability in local stores.

Benjamin, In this country, the adventures of Lee Falk's Phantom were published by nearly every comic book company at one time or another, most recently by Dynamite in their Kings Watch series that teamed the "Ghost Who Walks" with his King Features Syndicate brethren Flash Gordon and Mandrake the Magican. You're not alone, by the way--I'm a fan of that Billy Zane movie, too!

Peter David writing a new limited series coming out in September. Very excited! Also in my Google searches for any more news about this release I came across this article he wrote about the 96 film which made me love it even more. www.peterdavid.net/2012/01/16/movie-review-the-phantom/

I've actually had some conversations with Peter David regarding that filmed version of "The Phantom", and so knowing his feelings, he'll be a perfect scribe for that character!
