The Missfits are back and this time they’re ready to talk about Rick Remender’s run on Uncanny X-Force from Marvel Comics. Remender’s series was 35-issues and started back in 2010. You can learn a bit more about the series by tuning in. But that discussion takes place in the second half of the show and before The Missfits get to that, they discuss a few of their favourite things including: Something Terrible by Dean Trippe, G. Willow Wilson’s new Ms. Marvel series, Monster and a Madman by Steve Niles and Damien Worm, the artist Robert Sammelin, The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein, Orphan Black and more. A couple links mentioned in the show for you to check out (outside of the things linked above): The PBS Idea Channel TED Talk with Sana AmanatIf you want to do your geek homework for our next show on May 12, we’ll be joined by Zoe Gulliksen once again and having a big discussion about Lord of the Rings. We’re really excited for that show, so make sure you tune in for that as well. For the question about Fantomex. He was introduced by Grant Morrison during his X-men run. The character was a homage to a French character Fantomas and from an Italian creation from a comic and movie series Diabolik. He was even more odd during the Morrison run considering his nervous system is contained in a small UFO looking thing called E.V.A. and linked to the weapon X program.

Matt, You beat me to this one--nice job!! Fantomas was created in 1911 by Marcel Allain and Pierre Souvestre, and was featured in very early silent movie serials, and even some films as late as the Sixties. Diabolik dates from the early Sixties, created by sisters Angela & Luciana Giussani, and a 1968 film was directed by Mario Bava, who would go on to direct "Black Sunday" with Barbara Steele, "Planet of the Vampires" (which influenced Ridley Scott's "Alien") and 1971's "Twitch of the Death Nerve", which some cite as the first slasher movie!

Thanks for subscribing! It really makes such a difference in letting us know who's listening and keeping the show alive. And thanks everyone for explaining the origins of Fantomex. I guess he's not actually inspired by an old vaccuum cleaner or laundry detergent. Heh.

I loved this edition of the Missfits. This episode in particular got me through my working day. When you got to your discussion over who you would include on your own X-Force team it sent me right down the rabbit hole and I started brainstorming. Now, in order to prevent it from becoming a complete fan-fiction affair (not there there is anything wrong with that, of course) I set myself some rules. 1) They had to a Marvel character that was in someway connected to the X-Men or had been a member at some point. I decided to exclude characters who have been consistent antagonist of the X-Teams 2) My roster had to contain no more than seven characters, because that was the max number the various rosters had on Remender's run. And 3) Selfishly, I put characters together that I would enjoy seeing interact.
Here's my team:
Emma Frost (Leader) Mystique X-23 (I'm not crazy about Logan, and yet I love Laura's character) Dust (Sooraya Qadir) Anole (very useful power set) Wiccan (a bit of a stretch, but his mother is the Scarlet Witch, so he is totally connected) Rockslide (Every team needs a heavy and I was gonna put it Colossus, but I really like the friendship Anole and Rockslide have)
