This should get people scratching their heads, it did for me! Outside of the big arcs from writers like Snyder, Loeb, Morrison etc that are often mentioned (rightfully so) as among the favourites of many, what are the standout Batman stories/runs for you? Personally I love Brubaker's run on Batman, which includes Bruce Wayne: Murderer/Fugitive. I'm also a big fan of Rucka's two runs on Detective. I also enjoyed Brubaker's run. Another run I enjoyed was Batman: City of Crime written by David Lapham (run is Detective Comics 800-808, 811-14). Admittedly, it's a pretty dark story, could even give some of Snyder's stories a run for their money in terms of tone. But I love the visceral nature of the story and how it shows Batman really questioning his motives and effectiveness.

I've been thinking of picking up the Black Mirror TPB. How does it hold up compared to Snyder's current run?

I've been thinking of picking up the Black Mirror TPB. How does it hold up compared to Snyder's current run? I'd highly recommend the Black Mirror. You can definitely see seeds of ideas he further explores in the New 52 Batman. Plus I love both Jock and Francesco Francavilla's artwork. Snyder talks about how having Dick Grayson as Batman means focusing on his different strengths and weaknesses, namely being more compassionate and social than Bruce Wayne and exploring how that affects him as Batman. It's one of my favorite Batman stories and superhero arcs in general.

Both Jock and Francavilla's art is a lot darker than Capullo though so that might take you by surprise. If you're a fan of either Dickbats and Commissioner Gordon then it's a great read.

I would love for Snyder and Francavilla to team up for a Gordon series, heck even a maxi-series. If there is anyone at DC that could revive a Gotham Central it would be Snyder. Instant Eisner for Francavilla also.

I've been thinking of picking up the Black Mirror TPB. How does it hold up compared to Snyder's current run? Do It! Can't recommend that one enough.Maybe i'm the only one but in my opinion this is Snyder's best work on Batman so far. I like Capullo's art on the current run but i love the art in this run.And Snyder writes a great Dick Grayson. Got a great hardcover of this book and its one my favorite possesions.

I like Black Mirror at lot. It maybe drags a little in the middle for me, but overall, very good. It ends much stronger than Snyder's other Batman arcs (besides the short Clayface one). The art is really on point. There's a really cool concept that sets off the story that I don't want to spoil.

So just got caught up on the Snyder Capullo Batman run.Started yesterday with issue 18 and just got done with 27. Zero Year is the best arc of the series so far i think, still don't think its the greatest thing ever but its a very good story.Really seems like Capullo's art is getting better.(don't like Batman's purple gloves though)

I don't know if it's been previously mentioned, but I'll put in a plug for Paul Pope's Batman Year 100 as a great, somewhat under the radar story. I usually like Paul Pope's art, but I know it's not for everyone. I love the atmosphere he creates about a future where a paranoid gov't tracks everyone, and Batman is the one person to resist (reminds me a bit of how Batman is portrayed in Superman: Red Son). Plus, the way he depicts the history of Batman is pretty fun and rewards people who have followed the character for a while.

Still think it looks a bit off though but i understand why they did it.
