If you had the opportunity to have a drink with any comic book character and the creator you would most like to write them who would they be (Bonus: what would you order?) I'd choose Doctor Doom and Scott Snyder, and I'd order a hot toddy (it's starting to get cold here in Newfoundland ). That'd probably be a good thread by itself Jamie Maddrox - Peter david

Let me start by saying, I am a lucky guy. Not Longshot lucky, but I am pretty fortunate because I grew up in an environment where reading was important and access to books was plentiful. For me, comics were the building blocks of a life long love of reading, art, and learning. I have worked my ass off, had some amazing opportunities, and now I am at a point both professionally and personally where I am able to create opportunities for others and it is a pretty nice feeling.
Do you know of any charitable organizations or events, large or small, that are comic specific which support the industry or help provide access for people who may not have it? I have given used books and comics directly to libraries and I am now lucky enough that I can afford to buy new books for the local children's hospital through a charity that BN runs annually. The ones I can think of are FCBD, the CLDF, Hero Initiative, and of course the local library.
This popped into my head because I was looking at the current Humble Bundle, a big Valiant themed bundle and I am going to grab it because its an absurd amount of comics for a great price, I have never read any Valiant before, and its pretty cool to have a hobby you can enjoy while also helping others.

This isn't a question, but more of a (hopefully) fun challenge for the podcast crew. So I love listening to the podcast in my car during my commute, but 2 days a week it's my turn to take my kids to child care, about a 20 minute drive each way. Now, of course most of the time I'm playing kids CDs while they're in the car, but occasionally I need my podcast fix after listening to "The wheels on the bus" 10 times in a row. Now, I can curse with the best of them, but I do try to put a limit on how many f-bombs my kids hear per day!
To be clear, I am not asking that you all go expletive-free, but rather I thought it would be fun if you all did just one show where you have a "no swearing challenge." Try to get through one show with no one cursing, and when someone does swear, that person has to put $1 or $5 in a pot that gets donated to charity, like the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. What do you all think?

Okay so my question for this week is:
Tusk has just come out, which as you know is the outcome of a joking conversation on Kevin Smiths Smodcast podcast.
If the Talking Comics team were to make a movie out of one of your podcast conversations or rants (that you can remember), what would it be?
I feel like it would involve lunging.
Great question!!!

Ok - round robin time: These questions are specific to each of you.
Imagine you are in a fictional comic Universe. Which universe are you in.
Bobby: Who are your podcasting partners?
Steve: A high-ranking evil official like the Red Skull, or Amanda Waller have authorized your termination. Who do they have hunt you down and murder you to death?
Bob: Who do you have your Tuesday Morning Coffee with, and who do you have your Friday, adult beverages with?
Stephanie: You've found a box of kittens, (this has no relevance to the question, I just thought that would make you happy). You are no longer Canadian, which city do you choose to live in?
If anyone else is there: A high-ranking evil official like the Red Skull, or Amanda Waller have authorized Steve's termination. Who hunts him down and murders him to death?

I've got one, what Marvel, DC and Independant characters you'd like to see together in their own crossover book (lets say between 1-3 from each but all in ongoing series)
I was thinking The Will,Lying Cat, The Stalk, Star-Lord, Rocket Racoon, Kyle Raynor and Darkseid (just off the top of my head)

In relation to the sad cancelling of All New X-Factor Peter David identified readers no longer picking up the monthly floppy and instead opting for digital or trade waiting as the cause of the sales not meeting the required levels. What does the panel think about this? Should publishers be will to wait longer to see if costs are recouped in trade sales? Should readers make more of an effort to buy monthlies of titles near the cancellation line?

First there was this: Batman Jumps To Five Bucks An IssueThen, a day later, there was this: Scott Snyder Says He's Negotiating To Reduce The Price HikeSo, to me, this raises a multitude of questions, many of them rhetorical, a few probably redundant. The book started out at $3 only a couple of years ago (plus a few months), then it jumped a whole dollar to $4, skipping over the $3.50 mark, and now, perhaps taking a cue from special editions and limited series events and such, DC's ok with jumping it another whole dollar, ongoing? Are you fucking kidding me right now? They've nearly doubled the price of the book in less than three years. This is unheard of in my experience, and absolutely appalling in every sense. And this isn't shooting themselves in the foot? Or stabbing their fans right in the back? Stabbing their artists in the back as well, perhaps? Is this not a massive, absurdly-profitable company more or less daring people to trade-wait and/or pirate their product? Does this not engender rightful ill will and caustic cynicism towards DC comics, in general, from fans, artists, and shop owners alike? Who do they think they're fooling, scrabbling for any justification for this? The entertainment value in time spent/money spent is poor at $4; at $5 (?), good glob. Atrocious. Heinous. Criminal. This is fan friendly? This is kid friendly? This is class friendly? This is good for/helps grow the industry? This puts comics in more peoples hands? We're all going to sit there and take it, and lean on crusty old chestnuts like, "Well if you want to buy the book, buy the book, and if you don't, then don't. I don't see how it's a big deal/affects you"? Too, Snyder and Capullo only found out about it through the media, a week before the book's ready to drop? This is how you run a business? This is a company you want to support and champion and feed your dollar to? What does this say about how DC's being run, who's running it, and where they're going from here? What does this say about how much respect they have for their talent? Is this a sustainable thing? Is Marvel going to be right on their heels? Are the big two in some sort of oligarchical cahoots/collusion against the rest of the field? How hard do you think this made the people at Image and Dark Horse and The Rest laugh? How much leverage do you think Snyder actually has? Is the price going to come down, now that he's publicly discussed it? Will this spell the beginning of the end of the relationship between Snyder/Capullo and DC? What do you guys have to say about this? The various implications, long and short term: discuss.

What are some series or single issues that make you slightly ashamed because you haven't read them yet? Hopefully confessing this will ease your burden and motivate you all to get to reading some quality books.

What are some examples of some titles that you wish were finished but just kind of fell by the wayside??? For me it's Scarlet. As Bendis and Maleev got busier and busier, this title just kept getting pushed back further and further. Then there is Bedlam from Nick spencer and Ryan Browne (and formerly Riley Rossmo), which has just kind of completely stalled. Don't even get me started on Image United...
Additional queries: Do you greater dislike delays with your Marvel/DC stuff or with the indie stuff??? Would you rather something be completed or would you rather it just fade away if what you'll get isn't up to the level of what came before it?

With the announcement that All New X-factor has been cancelled du to poor sales and Peter David's apparent dig at trade waiters stating on his blog,
"All I did was write a book that got tons of positive write-ups,". "Which I guess is enough to encourage people to buy it when it comes out in trades, oblivious to the fact that books get cancelled when you do that."
Hearing a creator speak negatively like this about trade waiting and how it contributes to books being cancelled does this change your opinion on trade waiting and highlight the importance of buying single issues?

I was wondering how you guys felt about the news that DC is bumping the cost of Batman up to $4.99 an issue now? While Snyder and Capullo are putting out some amazing work, when does the price become too much?

What is the profit margin as far as sales go that decides a book should be cancelled?
Are these hard and fast numbers set before the launch of a book?
Or is it a pending time frame for a book to reach the required sales mark?
