You're not alone. Besides the occasional Infinity comic I'd much rather do physical than digital. I'm pretty sure most people still do (read: most). I was just making the point that a focus on digital is more likely to happen before a five dollar comic does. If/when it does happen, it won't be for a while. I hope your right bud $5 comics would not be a good thing. I can see it being the norm eventually but the idea is to move the most units with the most profit and right now that's 3.99. When it no longer becomes the viable option, then I can see the change happening.

Sadly it's inevitable - hopefully Image will keep their prices fair. I can see a day where I drop of marvel & dc books to be honest.

I see a lot of similarities when it comes to how I determine when I've had enough of a book compared to other people. While I wouldn't drop a book just because a certain creative team left, if the new team doesn't produce a quality book then I'd drop the book for that reason.(Conversely I will pick up another book just because a creative team has started on it - I love Brubaker/Epting for instance). When I drop a book is another matter entirely. I'm not so much of a mid-story or mid-arc person but more of a 'is it on a round number' person. So I'll kill a book on 10, 15, 20, etc. I look back at stuff I'd stopped and over the past several years it seems like it boils down to two things: 1) I lose interest in the story or 2) the art just kills it for me. Now I've got a LCS in the area where back issues are %50 off so if I feel like re-engaging in a title it's relatively cheap to get caught back up. But if I'm being honest with myself(and by default all of you reading this) I'd have to say it's hard dropping a book in part because I like to have the run of whatever I'm collecting. I'm definitely not one of those people who can drop off for 10 issues of a book and then come back later. I want the entire run. Surely there are those of you who can feel what I'm saying on this issue. What I also found interesting about this topic was when people started posting what they dropped recently. What made it interesting to me was my reaction to seeing some of the books that were dropped. I found myself thinking "whoa, he dropped Batgirl, how could he after the amazing arc with her brother/mother/father?" or "really? Velvet? That book is wonderful." Good topic, with some unexpected thoughts - at least on my end. - Beau

I get where your coming from on the runs, once I drop a book it takes a new direction or a new creative team for me to go back. As for Batgirl being on my drop list, I found it a good series, but I still miss Bryan Q Millers iteration of the character and having Barbra as Oracle. Plus the current run seemed to get waylaid with cross overs every few issues. Just found issues piling up, basically met all my drop criteria. All that said though it is one of the series I miss along with Green Arrow.

I loved Wanted and the storyline with her brother but I didn't really do Villains Month, Zero Year or Gothatopia so only picking up 1 issue in 3 months seemed like "Maybe I can come back to this book once its done with crossovers/events or stories that seem more mandate than Gail having full creative control. Like April's issue. I'll probably pick it back up in April if any of the new titles I pick up crash and burn. And a lot of the other high profile books I'm trade waiting with. My library gets books QUICK so it makes it easy for me to forego buying it issue to issue if I can read 5 or so issues for free at the library.

I hear Ragdoll will be showing up in Batgirl soon, might have to jump back on board, still missing Secret Six here!

Like ending ending or just like "we've done 30 issues and its time to start back over again at #1" ending? Come on newsman! Give me the details! - Beau

Superman Unchained was set to be mini so no surprise but I thought it might go 12 issues. I am interested to see if Jim Lee takes a break from drawing and if not where he will be moving to. If he draws it I am buying it so hopefully its something I have an interest in.
Look forward to you article bud.

Just to contribute to this thread before hijacking it for my own purposes, what helps me trim down my pull list when I need to is creating rules that I force myself to follow. One of my cardinal rules is no double-shipped books. I know this is probably extreme, but when you think about one book being over $8 a month, it puts it into perspective. Besides, titles like Wolverine and the X-Men and Superior Spider-Man come out so frequently in trade it almost feels like there's no point in keeping up with single issues. Speaking of trades...
So I was going to start a new thread with this topic but it seems like this is the best place to ask: How do you decide what to trade wait on and what to pick up monthly?
With so many All-New Marvel NOW! titles coming out, I thought about trimming down my pull list to make some room for them, but I'm seriously considering going trade with most of the new series since Marvel is so good about putting out trades on a regular schedule. My hesitation is that I feel that compulsion to support certain titles with monthly purchases so that the title will continue. For example, I kind of want to wait on Silver Surfer because I think Mike Allred's art is worth owning as a trade paperback that I can show people that come over or lend out to anyone, yet I don't want the book to get cancelled because I'm not buying it regularly. Same thing with Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk. I know that my $3 each month isn't what would ultimately end the run on these new titles, but I feel like I'm sending the wrong message to Marvel if I pick up X-Men or Guardians of the Galaxy but wait for something like Ms. Marvel or Silver Surfer.
I'm trying to keep my pull list short not because of a money issue but more because of an attention span issue. I've been losing interest in more and more titles because I can't keep straight what's been going on in the narrative; this is largely my fault since I'm occupied with so many things but it's also a problem with some books' delayed shipping schedule (Hawkeye!). I think trade waiting on a lot of titles would benefit me greatly.

I ask myself the same question about trades and monthly issues. I agree about double shipping books it a lot and like you said trade often come out fast enough. Some months I get busy and can't read all my comics so on a double ship book I used to some times go to catch up and realize I was 4 or 5 issues behind which often resulted in me losing interest.
I find that characters I love or creator or story arc runs that I think are really special I want in comic form. That's the old school collector in me. With other stuff I don't mind waiting for trade. I often also buy trades of books I also own in comic form. That's reserved for stuff I really think is fantastic and I know I want to read numerous times but don't want to have to have to deal with comics constantly once they are put away.
I also agree with you that some book that you like but that might not be top sellers need to be supported by buy the actual comic. The big boys can wait till trade.

It used to be really hard trimming down on the pull list especially when you work at a shop and get a discount, but i started realizing that I was reading to stay current, which is good for work, but it was really space consuming. I started on titles that I got really far behind on, or realized kept getting thrown at the bottom of the weekly pile. It also helps when you're primarily a Marvel reader and they keep bumping up all of their titles to $3.99.

I dropped Wolverine of this new #1 after liking the last vol. of the series Cornell/Alan Davis. I'll continue w/ Superman Unchained but drop Detective Comics when Layman leaves. Batman Eternal has me on for a couple of months trial basis w/ me. I'm giving Southern Bastards a chance while sobbing over Fatale's finale w/ issue 24. I'll buy She-Hulk this month & Amazing Spider-Man in April (hoping that this Peter Parker is THE Peter Parker).
