Hello Everyone. I'm Ryan. From: Originally from a small town in upstate NY, but have been living in NYC for the last 5 years. How I got into comics: Always enjoyed comics, but growing up in a small town my only access to them was the magazine rack at the grocery store. Needless to say I didn't read much. Eventually got a Barnes and Nobles an hour away when I was about 16, where I was able to grab a trade or two every few months. But it wasn't until I moved to New York that I had access to real comic shops. I've kind of fallen off the deep end into the comic book pool since, with my weekly trip to the comic shop being one of my most looked forward to days of the week, despite the cost to my wallet (which is totally worth it!) What I'm reading: I read mostly Marvel and Image stuff, with East of West, Southern Bastards, Saga, and Deadly Class as some of my current Image favorites. As far as Marvel, I read bits and pieces from every corner of the universe, but I've always leaned more heavily towards the X-Men side of the spectrum. I'll say that I am currently loving what is going on with the new Secret Wars, which has started to take over my pull list these last few weeks. Can't help but love the complete insanity that Hickman has created. Been listening to the comics and games podcast for over a year now, and loving both. Actually made an account here last year, but never really got into the forums much. Hoping to spend a little more time here this time around and figured I'd officially introduce myself. Ryan, Welcome to the Forum! I'm sure that your interactions around here are going to end up putting a hit on your wallet, but I'm sure that you'll be getting enjoyable reading in return!

Hi there, I'm a long time listener first time caller (bonus points for the movie reference), I've been listening to the podcast since about 2011, dropped away from comics etc for a whole last year but have been back on board since early this year. Here is me:
Name: Sarah
Where I'm From: West Sussex, UK How I Got Into Comics: I bought a job lot of around 1000 comics from a charity shop, a new LCS opened in my (then) home town, and the rest as they say is history
What I'm Reading: Trades mostly these days: Captain Marvel, Pretty Deadly, Rocket Raccoon, The Wicked + The Divine Prized Geek Possession: the complete Absolute Sandman, and a set of Endless figures I picked up at NYCC. Or all of my Zatanna prints from the same con.

Welcome onboard Sarah great to have some more of us Brits - you'll have to tell me sometime how much Travel / Accommodation cost you for NYCC from UK?
I am planning on finally doing a US Con next year and I had my eye on NY.

My copy of the Jamal Igle print is now hanging above the desk where we record the show, so I'm reminded each week of the great time we had at NYCC! ps) Troops, Sarah is the author of our amazingly witty Top Secret Database , which you should certainly check out! rrr

I kinda cheated on the NYCC front, I was very, very lucky in that one of my lovely TC friends was good enough to put me up for a couple of weeks, so I only had to pay for flights and con tickets. I booked flights with Delta via STA Travel in the July, and paid £450 return. I'm not going to lie, the flights were pretty dire, but they were cheap! Hope that all helps, NYCC was amazing.

Hi everyone! Big fan of the site and the podcasts. Name: Mo Where I'm From: Chicago, Illinois - but I have lived in NYC for the last 9 years. What I'm Reading: Amazing Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, Daredevil, Ant-Man, Batman, Action Comics and just about everything anyone puts in front of me Prized Geek Possession: Blank Variant of Superman Unchained signed by Scott Snyder and Jim Lee How I got into Comics: My first comic book ever was in 1992, “The Death of Superman”, I was 9 years old and after annoying our parents all week, my older brother and I had just gotten a copy. We only had the one copy between the both of us so he would read it out loud to me and show me the pages as he went along - the way he would read it felt like I was watching a movie! I would have him read it to me again and again, and given that he loved comics so much, he didn’t mind at all. I lost my brother later that month and with it the desire to keep reading. Every time I would see comic books amongst the magazines in the grocery store all I was able to picture was my big brother reading them to me. A couple years went by, and my dad had gotten me a copy of the Giant sized 50th issue of “Spider-Man” with the hologram eyes. I still remember reading thru it and tearing up because I could hear my brothers voice narrating the whole book in my head. The story itself was kind of a grimm read so it didn't push me back into comics. Years went by and was privileged enough to see BTAS and the rest of the amazing shows that came from the DCAU, so I was still a fan of superheroes but was not reading any of the comics. Wrapped up high school, college, got a job, moved to NY and eventually walked passed 40th street and saw an amazing looking comic book shop “Midtown Comics", walked in and was overwhelmed by the selection and didn’t really receive any helpful advice of where I could start. Went home and started searching the net for a place to start when I ran into the talking comics website and the podcast. When I started listening to the podcast it was like I was having a conversation with brother and I guess the rest is obvious Long story short, I think my brother is the initial reason I had gotten into comics but it is really the Talking Comics podcast that has gotten me to the avid reader I am today. I have been listening to the Talking Comics podcast for a couple years now and while I have never interacted with the site/twitter/email before, I feel like they are a part of my extended family. So Thank you guys for what you have been doing, congrats on over 200 podcasts, and I hope to keep hearing more.

I know that I speak for everyone connected with Talking Comics when I say that we're humbled by your thoughts of our gab-fests reminding you of your brother, and that for me personally, the notion of being a "comics mentor" in even any small way puts a smile in my cranky old heart. Welcome to the Forum, and thank you! Bob
