Hey! Let's get you started!
What kind if thing do you like in a book?
If you let us know what tone and stories you're into or any specific characters, I'm sure we can all help you find some cool books to read.

But Hey, you need to start sometime Okay, Avengers wise, whilst being heavy reading, Jonathan Hickman's work on Avengers/New Avengers has been pretty great. They both lead into an event called Infinity that was fantastic. It might look intimidating at first, due to reading order etc. but I'll glad help you if you get stuck! As for Hawkeye, Matt Fraction's Hawkeye comic (which is about 16 issues in) is a really fun read. Funny, quirky, with great characters and a dog that likes pizza. Who could ask for more?! I'm not much of an authority on Loki, but his new solo book (Loki: Agent of Asgard) is only 2 issues in (#2 came out yesterday. I also believe the Journey Into Mystery comic has some cool Loki based stuff. I'd suggest going onto the thread called 'Steve's board' on this forum and asking Steve about Journey Into Mystery. No doubt he'll gladly point you in the right direction.

So I would just want to know what to ask for so I dont come in the shop not knowing anything. Their website is a mess but I think I will get Marvel Universe Avengers Assemble #1 SYU... I was thinking about getting Hawkeye, Vol. 1: My Life as a Weapon. And I will get Loki Agent of Asgard! It looks really cool.

Hooray, another Loki fan! Definitely definitely definitely read Kieron Gillen's run on Journey into Mystery, it is an excellent book and even though it isn't necessary to read it before Loki Agent of Asgard it will give you the background to enjoy that book even more. Also read Gillen's Young Avengers, which follows after the events of Journey into Mystery and has both Loki and Kate Bishop from the new Hawkeye series (seconding and thirding and fourthing all the recs for that book too!). Jamie McKelvie does the art for Young Avengers and I love his style.

Which do you think I should buy first? Im planning on buying Hawkeye one first but Im not sure.. Sorry I such a noob. Don't apologize! I'm still pretty new to comics myself, but this is a great forum and you'll definitely learn a lot and get some ideas for new titles to check out here. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the titles recommended. Hawkeye might be a little easier to jump onto without having read anything else first - even though Journey into Mystery is a fabulous book and you'll be able to follow it pretty well without having read the Thor arc before it, I still found myself stopping to look up events and characters on Wikipedia occasionally. If you have the chance, I'd go ahead and pick up the first two issues of Loki Agent of Asgard as well, since 2 just came out and 1 got a reprinting (or you could download them on Comixology). I think they're trying to make that title very friendly to new readers, so you shouldn't get lost without having read JiM first, and it's a really fun read, especially for Loki fans! Oh, and completely unrelated to the Marvel universe, but Saga is a flat-out amazing book. It's by Brian K. Vaughan and is put out by Image comics. I believe all the issues are now out in trade, and the comic is taking a six-month break so you'll have plenty of time to catch up with it before it comes out again. If you like sci-fi fantasy, romance, action, humor, drama, and just great storytelling, you should check it out!

Hawkeye Vol. 1 is a great read, and a great start. It's not bogged down by continuity, and is just plain fun. Vol. 2 is out also. As for Avengers titles, I'd recommend the series Avengers Assemble. Issues #1-#8 feature the same team as the movie and are written by Brian Michael Bendis. BUT stick around after those issues, because Kelly Sue DeConnick takes over and starts featuring some excellent Avengers that we have yet to see on film, such as Captain Marvel and Spider-woman. Pretty much everything is collected into hardcover volumes right now. The first one is simply titled "Avengers Assemble", the second is "Avengers Assemble: Science Bros" and the third is "Avengers Assemble: The Enemy Within" which also features a few issues of "Captain Marvel" that crossover with the story.
Jonathan Hickman's "Avengers" is pretty dense, but I absolutely love it. Just dive in headfirst, and don't worry if you don't "get it" at first. I'd recommend reading Hickman's "New Avengers" alongside it. These are more conceptual science fiction stories than your run-of-the-mill super hero stories, so if you're into that, you'll probably enjoy it!
And just like courtneyk said, embrace Wikipedia! These characters have long, rich, histories, and it's impossible to know/remember everything, even if they're your favorite characters! If a character that you're interested in pops up in a title you're reading (ie: Hyperion, who I knew nothing about, appears in Hickman's Avengers), just look them up on Wikipedia and refresh yourself on their history! Of course, you are always more than welcome to ask questions here on the forums too!
Welcome aboard! You're in for a hell of a ride!

With the shop being so far away have you considered reading comics digitally?
As for Marvel books you're coming in at the perfect time, damn near all of the books are either rebooting or getting a new jumping on point. Some of them aren't great jumping on points, but what can you do. I was disappointed with Hickman's Avengers "new #1" as it was the first issue I read and was pretty lost throughout.
But Black Widow is only on issue #3, as is The Punisher, Loki is on #2, Moon Knight #1 just came out (SO GOOD!), Fantastic Four #1 was pretty good.
Silver Surfer #1, Iron Patriot #1, along with several Avengers and X-Men books are starting up this month.
As for April we have a new Amazing Spider-Man #1, Iron Fist #1, Doop #1, Mark Waid's Hulk is getting a new #1, Nightcrawler #1, All-New Ultimates #1, Ultimate FF #1, Ultimate Spider-Man, Elektra #1, and Inhuman #1.
The next 2 months are going to be crazy with all the new #1s and jumping on points. I think the next Iron Man is a jumping on point as well.
