I've never read any Swamp Thing, I don't ever want to read Alan Moore's run until I am dead certain I want to because of its length and because, besides Watchmen and Killing Joke, his general attitude towards comics these days has tainted his name for me. Petty I know. But he's a giant grump.
But Scott Snyder and Brian K Vaughan share first place in my top writers of all time. Yet for some reason not even that has pushed me to pick up both their runs on Swamp Thing. Are they worth it? More specifically, do they have a solid ending?

To be honest (though I am biased) I think the Alan Moore run on Swamp Thing is mostly about love. You may enjoy it. It is one of my favorite comic books runs of all time.

Brain K Vaughan's run isn't really about Swamp Thing. His run is excellent but it focuses on a character that would be a wee bit of a spoiler if you haven't read the early stuff. It occurs well after Moore's run and well before Snyder's.
Scott Snyder's run is great, but again, it follows on from the previous runs like Batman and Green Lantern did in the New 52. It didn't really get rebooted but as there is a bunch of amnesia involved it may as well be a reboot. Snyder's run is very pulpy but a very enjoyable romp with Animal Man.
I'm a huge fan of Alan Moore and specifically his work on Swamp Thing. I separate the man from his work because he is a giant, petty, douche. Unfortunately, he happens to be an amazing storyteller. For what its worth, I highly recommend picking up the first two volumes of Moore's Swamp Thing. You can carry on after that if you enjoy it but those first two volumes wrap up a very nice arch.

I'm a huge fan of Len Wein's original Swamp Thing stuff, also I love Rick Veitch's run which tends to get overlooked because it comes right after Moore's.

Without Len Wein I wouldn't have one of my favourite characters and I'll be first in line when he pens the Swamp Thing Convergence book this summer. Veitch does a fine job of carrying on after Moore left but what an act to follow. As Veitch was the artist when Moore was writing he really got Swampy's voice down when he took over writing duties. Apparently Moore was very helpful to Veitch during the transition so he's not all bad.

If anyone has doubts about the greatness of swamp thing, and haven't read Moore's run.... your doing a disservice to yourself. There aren't too many words I can say that do the run justice, it's perfect.
The new52 run started ok with Snyder, but soule too it way beyond the basic realm of the dcu.

I am really pleased with what Soule has done, carrying on from Snyder. However, I am concerned that Swampy will be lost in the shuffle after Convergence and it won't get picked up again until someone comes along to restart everything. This world could do with more exploration, and Swamp Thing to settle in to a groove for a while.

All the world building he did, would be a shame to throw away. How he's built up the parliaments has been brilliant.
