Does anyone read invincible? For all the pub kirkman gets from TWD, I hoped that invincible would be pushed more into the spotlight. It's such a great book.

I am but my problem, as well as the problem with a lot of people, is the book didn't really get a ton of recognition until after the first couple compendiums came out. So now a lot of people, myself included, are spending a ton of time catching up on the book and trying to get caught up with everything. It really is a fantastic series though. Loved what I've read so far

It's the only series I've read where I care more about the supporting cast than I do the main characters. And I mean that as a good thing.

For me, I REALLY loved Invincible and I also loved The Walking Dead. However, for both books, my problem was that they became SO DARK. In TWD, there was/is no purpose to the book anymore... I read up to Issue 103, I believe and at that point I just had to say ENOUGH. Kirkman had no real plot to go along with the series. He was just doing bad things to the characters for the sake of doing them. IT all just felt like horror porn filler for me.
Around Issue 70ish of Invincible started to go that way for me too. I LOVED Allen the Alien and a ton of the other supporting cast as well, but the book just never let the characters have any fun. It was all of them just dying or getting beat nearly to death and then them recovering and going on to the next big thing that would kill someone or nearly kill someone. I know I'm being general and a bit harsh because I really loved the series but after a while it got too repetitive for me and I had to stop reading Invincible as well.
For me, both of these comics are evidence that different writers can be good to shake things up and change things. I know they sell really well regardless of what I think, but those are my thoughts.

That's been my problem with TWD for a while now. I've read up to about where you are and it just isn't grabbing me like it used to. It feels aimless. I haven't gotten that far in Invincible yet but that's a bummer if that's the case. I mean the book has its dark moments but dark for the sake of dark is never good

Yeah I don't really know why I keep reading TWD. The All Out War story arc is pretty good, actually. I really like Negan as well... He's a much cooler villain than The Governor.
But the characters seem muddled and lost. It's almost as if I can't connect to anyone because I know that they're just going to die. Maybe it's more like Kirkmann doesn't bother writing good characters because he knows that he's just going to kill them off.
It's really sad that it's starting to fall apart. The first two thirds of the series was so impressive. I was so excited to read every issue. Now it's come to a point where I just end up even forgetting that the new issue is out.
I haven't read Invincible yet. I don't know if I ever will. It seems like there's too much of it, and I'm not even sure that I would like it.

I mean I DO love Ezekiel and a lot of the threads they seem to be laying out for All Out War but the comic really needs a good shake-up for it to get back to the comic I knew and loved back in the day.
I hope the same for Invincible

Invincible has its dark moments for sure. I like it because it shows that sometimes the heroes can lose, and sometimes when they do win it doesnt feel like much of a win. But i totally see why that would turn people off. Around the time steph stopped reading it was pretty crazily bleak and for a book that wasnt all that bleak in the beginning, it was jarring. I guess TWD fits in there too but im still recovering from issue 100 to really think about it.

I like those aspects a lot too, but I'm just disappointed that there's no new plots, just new monsters and villains. I think that's more or less my summary of why I lost interest in both series'. It kind of turned me off of Kirkman's writing entirely.

Well that whole new direction that kirkman was teasing is more doom and gloom! Hooray!

I liked the Tech Jacket stuff that was sorta part of the Invincible/Robert Kirkman universe but I stopped reading it because it was just dark, like a lot of people apparently. I really hoped Kirkman's "Bold New Direction" that he was teasing was going to lighten it up a little. But oh well.

If it's in my pile I generally save Invincible til last. It's probably my favourite superhero comic, there's a little bit of everything. Kirkman plays with what we know about superheroes, pays homage to them, subverts them or lovingly parodies them, and never fails to make me care about every character.
And Ryan Ottley doesn't get the attention he deserves for his stunning and dynamic art.
Love this book!

I read both TWD and Invincible, but find myself waiting until I have at least 4-6 issues before reading them. Kirkman's style makes his stories read far better in chunks as opposed to month to month. I still buy the single issues to help support monthly sales instead of trade waiting, but have been rethinking that move since these series aren't really in jeopardy of being canceled anytime soon.

I tried just reading Invincible Universe but felt extremely lost.
