Thanks for the info! I'll definitely check out your article. If it comes down to buying them issue by issue I might have to do that as I'm not a big fan of black and white. I'm heading to one of my LCS's right now so maybe I'll see what they've got available. Problem is I've got several other series I'm working on, Fables, Iron Fist, of course FF, but sometime also Spectacular Spider-Man. Arrrggg too much... - Beau Beau, There were a few trades in color put out some years ago, but they never completed the run, although picking those up cheaply might be the best way to sample the series! There are Omnibus volumes, but those are real committments! Yep, that seems to be the case. Looks like if I want to read them I'll have to pick them up by the issue, which is ok with me really, as I'm still very much into the 'collectible' aspect of comics so the hunt is a large part of the fun for me. - Beau

Heyo, Ever see a comic that you haven't seen before and think "man I love the look of that cover" and stew on it for awhile and then break down and go after it? Well for some reason the comic below is one of those for me. It just really caught my eye, maybe it's the way Thor just seems like he's about to come off the page and smack you. Giant-Size Thor #1 I also snagged Thor Annual #6, Avengers Annuals #6 and #7, and The Incredible Hulk #112 and #115. #115 is in really nice shape and I picked it up for a song. I don't really collect Hulk but my son does and I'm thinking these might make great future birthday and Christmas presents, though it'll be tough to hold out that long because lets face it, comics are cool. - Beau

I am excited to say that I picked up the last two issues I needed, #102 and #103 to complete the run of Fables through the current issue, which is #139. When I started I had zero Fables. Found a deal on ebay that allowed me to snag the first 80 issues and that got me off to a good start. Over the past 8 months or so I've been slowly picking them up here and there at sales and on back issue tables. Now that I have finally completed the run I can start reading them...eventually. In the past couple of months I've also completed a run of Thunderbolts #1-190 so that's also on the 'stack' if you will. However, completing Fables was great fun and I definitely can't wait to start on them. - Beau

Cap'n Nick, If you've listened to our "History of Captain America" episode, you know my fondness for those Steranko issues, and even had them with me for "show'n'tell"! I rambled a bit on the show that #113 contains my favorite page of comics ever, but in my recent article on the subject I couldn't get the image to "cooperate", but here it is in a more readable state!

Cap'n, I'd say that you could probably pick up a #113 for a song, but as #117 is "The Coming of the Falcon", prices are sure to rise!

Just picked up the Avengers run of the Kree-Skrull war ... the first EVENT of the modern age, I think. This is Avengers 89-97. Interesting for all sorts of reasons -- especially looking back from our far perspective. The art starts off with Sal Buscema, who, to me, was THE LOOK of Marvel Comics. I know now that he (and John Buscema) were cast in the Kirby mold, but I didn't think of such things when coming up in the world. Then part way through, Neal Adams (!!!) takes over the art, and that's pretty special.
The writing is great but OMG, Roy Thomas could really chew up the scenery. Loquacious doesn't go far enough ... unless you're talking about the LOVINGLY, LUSTY, LOQUACIOUS ROY THOMAS.
They didn't seem to realize that an EVENT was happening. None of the covers alert you to the fact that a lengthy, ongoing story featuring many characters from different corners of the Marvel Universe (including those Skrulls from back in FF#2!).
Anyway, enjoying the heck out of it.

I'm in the middle of putting together a pre-unity and key issues valiant collection. I have a lot of 90s nostalgia so picking up these valiant books is really fun and affordable. Today I picked up Magnus robot fighter number 12, which has the first valiant appearance of Turok the dinosaur hunter, for $.50. Also for $.50 I got solar man of the atom number 11, which is the second appearance of eternal warrior, and bloodshot numbers five and six, which are the first appearances of ninjak. I also picked up a few random issues from the new valiant entertainment universe for a buck a piece. Along with the valiant books, I picked up Afterlife with Archie number two, the second printing, to add to my Afterlife with Archie collection, which is almost complete. I also was able to find and pick up the last copy, in my town apparently, of Invincible number 110. I'm looking forward to reading this one, especially with all the controversy. Lastly I picked up Max Brooks's extinction parade number one. I read that this series is being optioned for a television series, so that peeked my interest enough to buy the first issue. I've never really gotten into horror comics before, but I love zombie and horror movies. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Heyo, Got some more stuff in the mail the other day. I've always like 'old' annuals as they were usually a great way to read a one and done story, sometimes two, about a character. I don't really have many Thor comics except for 12 issues of the 2007 run, so I saw these and just had to pick them up. Thor Annual #3(originally called 'King-Size Special!'), Annual #5, #7 and #8. Seems like 5,7, and 8 are all about Thor battling other people's gods - the Greeks, Greeks again, and the Incans. Should be fun reads, and I just love seeing old books in fantastic condition. Speaking of condition....I also picked up The Tomb of Dracula #70, which is the last issue of that series from 1979. This thing is beautiful, super deep blues, blacks, and purples on cover. Unfortunately I'm not sure why I picked it up as I've never read any of the Tomb of Dracula stuff. Anyone else ever read Tomb of Dracula? Would it be worth seeing if they have any collected editions or anything? Not sure I really want(or can afford) to go tracking down all the other back issues as that could get pretty pricey and I've got a lot of other issues to already track down. Thoughts on Tomb of Dracula? - Beau Beau, Tomb of Dracula is a masterpiece, and probably the greatest comic series that starred a villain! Involving stories and a wonderfully-layered characterization of the lead by Marv Wolfman, and spectacularly moody art by the great Gene Colan make this a must-read comic for horror fans! I did a piece last Halloween about ToD: talkingcomicbooks.com/2012/11/16/marvels-tomb-of-dracula-and-the-artistry-of-marv-wolfman-gene-colan/ that you might want to check out! Bob ps)I own all the original issues, and I've debated about buying the B&W "Essentials" volume just to have Mr. Colan's art sans color! rrr I also own a complete Tomb of Dracula run, along with a Werewolf By Night, Frankenstein Monster, and Supernatural Thriller (which turns into The Mummy), love that 70s Marvel horror stuff. BUT what I really wanted to share is the fact that TODAY April 26 I finished my complete Thor run with my purchase of a Journey Into Mystery #86. Unbelievably excited to finish one of, what I believe to be, the premiere books in comic book history. From Lee, Kirby, Roy Thomas, Neal Adams, John Buscema, Walt Simonson, Sal Buscema, & Tom DeFalco to J. Michael Straczynski, Dan Jurgens, Kieron Gillen, Chris Samnee and Jason Aaron, some of the greatest of all time have worked on Thor. The only question now is.........what do I do now?? Lol...thinking about a Weird War Tales run or a Treasury Edition run??
