Ok he's getting his own movie. Which normally means a brand new comic series.
Now l have always been a fan of Gambit. 90s Xbooks do that when you discover the cartoon. He's never really gotten his due in the books.
Always saddled with magical opponents rather then mutants.
Stuck with co stars that never really complimented him or his wsys
And the X anchor that can drown most mutants when they try to branch out.
He's a cool character, what does his (potential after the movie hits) book need to make him work?

That is a great question. He was my favorite character when I was younger and I have lost interest in him over the years. I know this has been done for other characters....but in my opinion a small scale story set in New Orleans that really focuses and develops him as a character might do well for him. It could possibly be set in the time when he was a thief and not part of the x-men.
I think the story needs to build him to be more than that guy who throws cards and has an accent. He should still throw super charged cards though!

Loved this character when I was younger, but quickly realized he and Rogue were the mutant equivalent of my grandma's stories. He needs to stop being a clique and have an actual personality. For a lack of better terms he needs to the Captain Marvel Treatment. And by that, I mean he needs a creator to come in and say this is Gambit. Yes we know he's a thief and a mutant but he's also X, Y, and Z. I like the idea of it being set in New Orleans, that could be fun.
And for the love of all that is good, give the guy a new look!!! He looks like a character in Tron is trying to blend into a 50's gangster movie.

I'm a big fan of Gambit and would love to see him get another title or at least just be a main character in a team book. I actualy think Peter David and James Asmus did really good things with him in the last Gambit series and X-Factor.
At this point I think the main issue with Gambit is that no matter how much character work is done with him in his own solo titles or in books like X-Factor, as soon as he is used in a main book such as X-Men Legacy he is placed back at square zero and is just portrayed to be a one dimensional character. I do not have any hope he will be portrayed well in the upcoming Uncanny Avengers issue, he will just be shown to be a character who is just after Rogue's affection.
I think what is best for Gambit is that Marvel stop trying portraying him as being head over heels in love with Rogue, the shipped has sailed on that relationship and the more they push it the more pathetic Gambit looks.
I think what is best for Gambit is a small key book based in New Orleans that really just focusing on getting to the core of the character, I really like the concept of the Assassin and Thieves Guild so would love to see those factions brought into play more with Gambit.
