On twitter, listener kinkycomicgirl (Carol Cross) has brought up that we should do a SW EU book club. While that may be more of a time commitment than I can do at the moment, I think it's a fantastic idea. These older SW books shouldn't be forgotten now that we have a new canon, especially since so many fans grew up with them. I figured we could use this thread to talk about some of the EU books we've read and make recommendations to each other. And, if people want to check out certain books together, that's cool! Right now, I started Razor's Edge at Carolyn Cocca's recommendation. It's a Princess Leia book, which is exactly what I want more of.

First of all thank you very much I'm honored. Now where do you start with the Expanded Universe. There are so many awesome places people systems species that these books cover I'm going to need a while to figure out where to go from here. I am just finishing force awakens and AM going to start heir to the Jedi. All these books are available in audio format as well if you don't have time to actually sit and read like as of late I do not. So I will be refreshing up on older books and probably talking too much on this forum. May the force be with you all.

Here is a list of what is currently considered canon in SW: starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline_of_canon_booksNow, there are hundreds of books that came before the start of the canon that are great. I have not by any means read enough of the Legends universe to give a solid answer to where to start. However, I started with Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn. I thought it was a good place to start and get a feel for the SW EU that existed before canon. Eventually, I'll finish the Legacy of the Force series. I've been enjoying that one quite a bit. In the canon, I still need to read the Battlefront novel and the short stories that go with TFA. I don't think I'm going to deal with the young readers/Jr novelizations.

Welcome aboard!

This is probably not the best place for this, but has anybody read Darth Plagueis or the Dark Lord trilogy? I have them sitting on my shelf, but haven't picked them up yet.
Or any suggestions on a good place to start reading in the Expanded Universe?
Sorry if this has been covered on the Missfits. I am currently playing catch up with the episodes.

I About to start in to the SW EU with audio books and was thinking of doing both the Canon and Legends ones. I'm thinking Canon in order so I'm going with Dark Disciple and for Legends going with the classic Timothy Zahn trilogy first.

Im currently just finishing up Tempest of the Legacy of the force fame(2 pages or so left) Tempest was good. Not the strongest in story development but high on emotional tugs and fast with light saber action.

Carol, First, thanks for the kind words, as they truly mean a lot. As I know that I've said before, but that always bears repeating, it is my honour to know that our humble efforts have been the catalyst that led to the growth of our fabulous community of friends, who have filled these Forums with such wonderful bonhomie, with intelligent and respectful discussions of even the most contentious issues. Your contributions are sure to keep the ship sailing forward! Best to you Carol, for being a part of our family! (Now, it's back to filling out my ballots for Tuesday's recording, and the tough choices are looming! We have 10 "Best Overall" titles, and each one that I could vote for as #1 in a second, and I'm supposed to put them in order? Can Black Magic push aside Squirrel Girl for my affections, and where does my Stjepan Sejic vote go, Death Vigil or Sunstone? I think it's time for another glass of Malbec!)

I was going through the polls earlier today and voted for all in the first day one but don't have enough knowledge to vote on the rest. I did get some great books for my wishlist. I couldn't find the Star Wars: Shattered Empire in Google Books but will have to find in physical or on Comixology.

Not the strongest in story development but high on emotional tugs and fast with light saber action. I'm already about halfway through the book and really enjoying it. I like the idea of this half way point of dark and light sides. I'm still a little confused as to where it sits in the time line. I keep finding myself recognising people but not knowing where it fits in.

I've heard good things about the Darth Bane stuff.

Darth Bane is ok. It drags in spots and his motivation is a little odd. But it was a solid trilogy.
