Carol,
You know that i whole-heartedly agree! I'm having a great time reading the Marvel books that are on the fringe, and particularly the ones that are being done so well featuring characters that I love, like Scarlet Witch, Dr. Strange, Silver Surfer, and Spider-Woman, as well as the ones on your list, too! I'm loathe to say it, but I'm reading no "X" books, and so far, I'm sadly (and amazingly!) not completely won-over by Mark Waid's ANAD Avengers, so unless that picks up, I'll be out of the main-thread books entirely.
(Just an aside, Carol dear, but if you are in charge of Marvel, would you please bring back the Fantastic Four? Poor Robert is very distraught over its absence, and it would mean the world to him, darling! @udrey )

I'd say at the top is the new Ironman title. And the others we spoke of. I honestly think members of the FF will always play a huge part in the Marvel U... but not as the First Family for a while. And I don't think it has to do with the current movie status... They need a... well need to return to glory.

Carol,
What's interesting about the recent history of the Fantastic Four is that the book was selling fairly well when it left the stage, and the last five years or so were comprised of mostly well-received runs by James Robinson, Matt Fraction, and Jonathan Hickman. It's baffling to me exactly how the decision to jettison the book, and the Richards family, came to be made.

And Victor, and he's in more of a heroic roll. Has the FF become unrelatable with all their formidable history? Superheroics seem to be Marvels focus (this round) and perhaps as we were speaking of "smaller" stories becoming more popular even almost indy like... is there no room for stories of such grand scales thr FF is known for?

Marvel has me so excited for 2016. They have several books with female and POC leads that I can't wait to check out. Black Panther, Luke Cage & Iron Fist, and Mocking Bird. Not to mention the insane team on the Black Widow book.

Carol, To my way of thinking, that history, added to the unique family structure of the team, should provide a well-spring of stories on both the small and large scales, as writers throughout their 55 years have shown, whether Lee & Kirby, John Byrne, and Walt Simonson, or the newer ones such as Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who did all "human interest" in his Marvel Knights 4 run. I would think that an FF book in the style of the Slott/Allred Silver Surfer would be a big hit, so if I was running Marvel, I'd offer the book to Michael and Laura Allred the first chance that I had!

Glad to see a lot of interest in PMIF and Luther Strode. Hope all you east coasters are fairing well. I do not miss the snow at all.

While I'm not the biggest fan of FF, I do recognize and understand their value in comic history. Having just read the entire Slott/Allred Silver Surfer last week, I would agree that having that team on FF would be wonderful. To me it's obvious that Slott "gets" the cosmic aspect of Silver Surfer and while it has been many years since I've read a FF title, to me, that's where the FF are best...in the cosmic realm like a node to Lost in Space. Some may say that's been over done, but if done correctly with the right team behind it, it can be done well.

Aaron, As nearly everything in comics is something that's been done before, it's about finding a fresh way to cover old territory, and I think that's the main reason that the Silver Surfer resonates so deeply for me!

Bob,
I finally picked up the first trade of Velvet. Man was it good, I ordered the 2nd trade yesterday and I can't wait to get it in. I also just finished the Fade Out (been on a Brubaker kick lately) and it was also really good. The art from both Epting and Phillips fit the stories perfectly and really bring them to life. So in addition to my previous list I'm looking forward to any project these guys have coming up.
Sadly, my excitement for anything marvel was crushed under the ending of secret wars and while I will probably pick up some stuff, giving money to them just no longer makes sense to me. To many other good books out there now to sift through the mediocrity that marvel is shelling out. I'll read the back issue stuff on unlimited (only ~$6/ month or the cost of 1 bloated new title) and hope somehow they right the ship. Sorry for the negativity, just still a little bitter.

Completely agree - both of these are fantastic and anything from Brubaker is always high on my list of must-buy books. The other series I'm really looking forward to is the return of Nowhere Men, which completely blindsided me when #7 turned up last week. It is every bit as good so far as the first six issues were, which is very good indeed!

Jason, As a fan of "The Avengers", meaning Mrs. Peel & Steed, and also of Brubaker & Epting, I picked up the first issue of Velvet expecting to like it, but it was even better than I would have hoped! The story reads so wonderfully in trade, but I struggle each month to walk past the latest issue on the shelf without picking it up! There are plenty of good books to read--including from Marvel--but as always, my best advice is to only support titles that you enjoy reading!

Tundra, I've now read Fatale, Fade Out, and now Velvet and I agree Brubaker is on the short list of writers that on my must read list. I can't believe it took me this long to get on board.
Bob, I have heard you mention Mrs Peel and Steed on the show before and I've look at it on comixology a several times and not pulled the trigger, maybe now I will.
As for Marvel, anymore their books bore me and lack consistancy. I agree they have some good books, but even those get sucked into the vortex of some crappy event and lose any semblance of what they were. In my opinion they seem to favor quantity over quality in many cases. And, I'm to the point that I'm tired of wading through the garbage to find the gems. I'll wait to get the opinions of people I trust and read it 6 months later, Like I have with Ms. Marvel and Hawkeye.
