Wow. That is really unfortunate and I'm sorry to hear that. I work at a comic shop and it's always a bummer when we miss a comic on anyone's pull list. Sadly, it happens, but it shouldn't as often as your local shop is doing it. Like everyone here, I say to support your local comic shop, but if it seems like they don't appreciate your business I say take it elsewhere even if it is online.

If they're continuously dropping the ball I would bring it up and see if they can fix it. If it continues I'd move on to a new shop or buy online. With the way things are now and book stores closing left and right they should be doing their best to keep you coming back.

I have bad experiences with mine as well. I live in Melbourne and there are 4 stores within short walking distance but none of them are welcoming. 1 of them is the Kmart of comic stores where they basically have eveything new in bulk but no customer service. There are 2 stores that have been around for a long time but have that stereotypical "comic book store guy" attitude in treating you like you're unworthy or have nothing positive to say about comics (why work in a store). The last one that just opened a couple years ago is where I have my pull list and to begin with they were basically righting the wrongs of the others. They couldn't do anything wrong. But slowly they've stopped caring about the comics. I feel like they are always hosting events and being social, yet I feel like whenever I pick something off the shelf and ask "is this any good" of the 5 people that work there, NONE of them know. Every time. I can't ever discuss comics with them and when I do, they are always negative towards anything Big 2 related. The only reason to go into a comic store is to have great customer service and discussions, otherwise just buy online. My advice is look further out. I found 2 incredible suburban stores which have not only wide selections but guys who you can talk to for hours and are friendly. It takes more time and effort to get there, but I never regret it. I find most easily accessible comic stores deal with the majority of customers and therefore may begin with great intentions, but slowly it just becomes another robotic job.

Sounds like the other comic shop in our area. My main store, despite its flaws (and its buying/selling issues..see the Pretty Deadly thread) really CARES about comics and will spend half an hour talking with you about whatever you want to talk about comic-related. So there's an endearing factor to that, that makes me forget about some of its issues. The other store, meanwhile, is a completely different story. First they charge you $70 a year to have a pull list. It doesn't include anything special (gift cards, discounts ect) but they charge you anyway. Second, the owner (who doesn't read comics) picks and chooses 20 comics that he will carry on the shelves. You can order a book, sure, and it will arrive in your pull, but if you're just browsing to see what's new this week, you'd better hope it's one of those 20 or you're SOL. On top of that, they don't like carrying Big 2 books and balk and complain and berate customers whenever somebody buys a book from Marvel or DC. Unless it's Image or Dark Horse, you're getting yelled at. And you can't come to them for advice with comics because "If it's mainstream, we don't care." The only reason I ever go there (like I said, not my main store) is one of my best friends works there. Otherwise I'd avoid it like the plague. All they care about is tabletop games and karaoke night.

Good luck staying in business not wanting to sell Big 2 comics.

That's what my main store is for. That said, I do feel bad for my friend and they seem to have a really big following online (3x the fans on Twitter and FB compared to my main store) so hopefully one of these days they'll realize the error of their ways. Or at least care more. That's what bugs me more than anything. A lack of caring.

That seems very strange and unusual to me, but yet you guys speak of it as if it is normal. For karaoke to happen there must be alcohol involved, and for logical reasons I don't see there being alcohol at the comic shop. SO please explain this oddity in LCS culture!
