Right I'm having a few problems with my local comic book shop. I have a pull list with them that I recently started, which seemed great at first but now the problems have started. They keep missing out comics from my list, when I tell them there is a comic missing they tell me it will be in my bag by next week. However, the comics never turn up and my complaints seem to fall on deaf ears.
Some of the examples of their mistakes:
1. I have All Star Western and Five Ghost on my pull list and I've yet to receive a copy of either in the last four months.
2. They keep on putting Daredevil: Dark Nights in my bag when I only had the Mark Waid Daredevil on my list.
3. They missed Black Widow #2 today, which was the last straw for me! (There has been a few others missing in the last couple of months too)
The issues they miss, I buy from an Ebay seller based just outside of London, their service is great! If you order a comic on a Wednesday it arrives at your door on a Saturday, postage and packaging is free, the comics are cheaper than my shop and all their comics are bagged and boarded.
My question is, should I stick with my local shop and hope it gets better over time or cancel the pull list and just buy everything from the Ebay seller?
Any advice would be great and really appreciated.
Thank you Lee

I may be biased because my wife is an ebay power seller. It sounds like you have already established a rapport with this seller, and have had a much more positive experience with them. I always encourage people to shop local, but in this case it just sounds like you've been slighted too many times and it may just be setting you up for disappointment.
Your ebay seller is probably relying on people like you to pay bills, or to have money on the side after all of their bills are paid from a 9-5 job. I know that is what it's like at my house anyway. My job pays all of the bills and gives us AMAZING health insurance, my wife does ebay and that's what allows us to have luxuries and to go out on the weekend. So at least you can be reassured you're not just paying some corporate entity, it may not be local but you are helping someone keep food on the table.

I would normally say support your local shop, but when they continually drop the ball and you've made them aware of the problem then it's time to drop the shop.

I also would normally support you buying from your LCS, but in this case taking away your business may be one way to show them they can't just assume people will keep coming back no matter what. It'd be different if it sounded like they were at least making an effort to improve, but it seems like that isn't the case.

Look around for a retailer who can fulfill your pull list requirements there are many professional comic suppliers and services out there who reward your custom with top customer service. Where in the world are you based? Perhaps some other members can recommend another retailer.

I live in North Wales in the UK, the store i'm using is a half hour drive away from me and next store after that is an hour away and owned by the same person.

You should look into using an online service like dcbservice.com

jig2punisher: I would stick with your eBay guy, they seem to offer decent service and pricing from what I have experienced. I just placed February's order with Disposable Heroes who are based out of the UK on the strength of having had decent service from them through eBay Their prices seem fair and they had every title I was after, check them out let me know how they stack up with your eBay guy? Might place March's with them instead!

I place all my orders with Disposable Heroes comics. They've never let me down yet. If there's a problem with late shipping they tend to email too. Prices are great and they deliver pretty quickly. I only really browse in my LCS as they seem quite expensive. I occasionally pick up things on impulse or out of the 50p bins there though.

Thanks, i've used Disposable Heroes before to buy single issues I've missed and was happy with their service on both their own site and their Ebay Store. I did check out their Semi-Subs form and I am tempted to put an order in for april.
I will definitely be cancelling my pull list with my LCS this week.
The seller I've been using on Ebay is A Place In Space, which is a store based in Croydon. Their Ebay service is very good and fast too. They do pull lists but they only ship the books once a month, which is too long to wait in my opinion. Check out their ebay store, they always list their new books about 10am GMT on a wednesday.

Funny you should mention A Place In Space, that's where I was getting my weekly titles the last five years or so. Just put my last weekly order in with them this week, hoping the Disposable Heroes one will seamlessly pick up from that in February. Hey thought thanks for the recommendations, small world eh?

Heyo, I'm going to pull a Yoda here and say "Do or do not. There is no try." Unless they have your credit card on file or you have already paid in advance there is not "tried to cancel". Just be done with them. You went in and told the clerk you want to cancel your pull list. You have upheld your end of the relationship. After all, you could have just stopped going in and they would have continued to order your books(except for All Star Western of course, hehe) and taken the loss when you never showed up to pay for them. If the clerk of the store can't figure out how to get a message to the owner or other person with the authority to modify pull lists that is not your problem. Poor customer service is just something I will not tolerate. With the modern internet era there is always someone else to buy from and if a LCS can't recognize that then eventually it'll be a shame when there is one less LCS in the world. - Beau
