In one of our first episodes, a listener asked about science fiction shojo stories to check out. This is an area in which Maria and I are sorely lacking. Since that episode, listeners have pointed out two shojo series that are science fiction:
Chobits
Vision of Escaflowne
I know that I'm adding both of these to my list. I'll probably start with Escaflowne anime and read Chobits (I love CLAMP!).
Are there any other science fiction anime/manga that are considered shojo?

I personally really liked the original Vision of Escaflowne - not the movie or OVA series. If you can find that one, I believe (complete bias) it is the best place to start :-)

Did I misread, or was that Yoko Kanno's name on the music credits for Escaflowne?

You did not :-) the music in that series was good. I really love that show and it didn't get the credit it deserved unfortunately. Another interesting series that I started to watch is Suisei no Gargantia (Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet) which appears to be on Netflix! But I don't think that it falls under Shojo.
