Both Rat Queens and Peter Panzerfaust have been plagued with delays. I hope this doesn't keep on happening with Kurtis Wiebe books, because I enjoy his writing.

So apparently rat queens is coming back with is original arist oc upchurch. I'm t quite sure how to feel about this, I'm definitely happy that Tess fowler is of the book though, her art just felt so devoid of life and she really didn't click with me (totally subjective feeling of course) also ROC just was the best artist on this book, even with all my love for sejic roc still was just perfect for this, but I course there is the whole harassment thing... So yeah I'm torn on this one

so just listened to the bit about RQ on this week's show, and had a couple comments. The way I see it there are a couple things going on that make me wonder where the truth lies:
1. Wiebe said she was let go because it wasn't working out creatively - I have no reason to doubt this. I read everything up through the first couple issues Tess was on, and I personally didn't like her artwork to the point where I stopped buying it for that reason. If that has been a common thread among readers I could see it affecting sales in such a way that removing Tess could be a pure business decision. Now the fact Wiebe said it was going on indefinite hiatus throws that angle into question, but once Tess took the issue public maybe he realized the damage was done and there was no point continuing. That's probably what I would have done in his shoes.
2. Weiebe said Upchurch was not coming back - yes they are co-creators and yes, they are/were friends, but do any of us really have a legitimate reason to doubt what he says aside from Tess saying it was happening? She was let go, so she has all the motive in the world to salt the earth behind her as she walks out. This reeks of the jilted girlfriend/boyfriend who bad-mouths their ex after getting dumped.
3. Tess is the one who made all this public - She obviously has a sympathetic following on twitter, so how better to gain supporters to your side of a story than to preach to the choir? If she wanted to get out ahead of something and have people on her side to defend her position, the stuff she said on twitter is exactly how you would go about it.
Now, despite my points being very one-sided I honestly have no idea where the truth lies. Either side could be in the right and we may never know for sure unless something decisive happens to support either story. I was a little disappointed because the folks on the show seemed all too ready to throw Wiebe under the bus, and that seems a little premature. Maybe they know more about the players involved than I do, but from my perspective it came across as Tess being beyond reproach for no good reason and Wiebe being dishonest because Upchurch is his friend. If she was let go for the reasons she claims, hell yes that is a shitty thing to do to anyone and Wiebe would deserve any backlash he has coming. If Wiebe is telling the truth then Tess deserves any backlash she would have coming, but he's still kind of screwed as the damage has been done already.

havent listened to the podcast yet but after Wiebes statement this all feels so very wrong, and unprofessional on Fowlers part. she definitely hurt the book with her remarks, there are people who just wont believe Wiebes statement regardless on the outcome/truth of it and drop the book.
if wiebe seriously planned on bringing upchurch back why not just keep quiet and let the ship crash on its own? now i dont know what to think about this whole situation. i dont know any of these people personally so i will have to revert back to "innocent until proven guilty" and give it another try if upchurch doesnt come back.
EDIT: after listening to the bit, i have to say that im somewhat disappointed, because pretty much the whole conversation was about Fowler vs Upchurch, whci his of course the easy conversation to have because taking upchurch back is bullshit, but after Wiebes statement i think its unfair to still debate that point, because all it does is shine a bad light at RQ without having definite proof that this is or was planned to be happening, this is the conversation we should have had if he got announced, which if wiebe isnt a total idiot will never happen now even if it was planned.
