was excited until I realized Reeder wasn't doing the art (not that the art is bad in any way; I just like Reeder's art a lot). However, I will likely give it a shot just to see if it is something my daughter would like.

How many issues until it gets cancelled? Books like this cannot work in a single issue Format. This should be a Manga style book, or at least a Graphic novel format.

Andrej, Amy Reeder writing a high-concept title, all-ages monthly title for Marvel is enough to sell those of us who are Rocket Girl fans, but will it will sell to the general public is another matter altogether! That said, these sorts of books have to come out as regular titles to drive new readers toward the traditional outlets, hoping to affect that change, at least that's how I see it.

Hey Bob I don´t think a 4$ monthly comic is affordable for a kid, especially when you can buy a 200 page Manga for less then 10$. And since these publishers only care about the monthly issue sales, this book will unfortunately be cancelled. The other thing is Marvels trades suck, the unbeatable Squirrel Girl trade contains 4 issues and costs 15,99$ that is insane you would be better off by buying the single issues. Marvel pretends to care about younger readers but their barrier of entry is so incredibly high that they push them towards other comics, with their pricing alone. If they where really serious about bringing younger readers in, they would release this book in Graphic Novel format, with 4 issues worth of content for 10$. And the other if you want to facilitate change, you have to be ready to change. Btw. its written by Brandon Montclare not Amy reeder

That said, even though they are only taking small steps, the Big Two are trying to address the changing demographics in fandom by aiming books at a different readership than the one they've been courting, which to me is certainly a positive sign. ps) I was certainly remiss in not mentioning Brandon Montclare as Ms. Reeder's co-writer on Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur, so thanks a lot for pointing it out, as their collaboration on Rocket Girl is a special one! rrr

It's actually written by both of them.
I think marvels price point is too high for any book aimed at kids, especially for single issues. Trades tend to have better durability which would make them a better fit for young readers, but I'd rather spend 3 bucks and have my kids tell me they didn't care for it than shelling out 15-25 bucks for a marvel trade only to have the kids give up on it within the first few pages.

If they only care about monthly issue sales, they wouldn't bring back Squirrel Girl or Captain Marvel. Obviously they are seeing good trade sales and have kept these titles going.
As far as the price point, it's here to stay. They haven't seen a demonstrable decrease in sales from it (if anything they've had increased sales over the past 2 years) and it's also likely a corporate mandate that they show a certain level of profit on each book in order for it be continue to be published.
