Ok so I've decided (you guys figured out that I'm talking about myself right? if so thanks for playing along) to reread issue 1 and then read 2 and 3 and reevaluate. I'll check back after that. I think this is a pretty safe community, and definitely NOT like the CBR forums. People over there are like a pack of sharks waiting for the first trace of blood then go for the kill.

I seriously thought you were actually talking about a friend. Same here. Don't be embarrassed about liking/not liking a book around here. We're nice .

Gonna dive in on my lunch break today. I am curious though for those that liked it was it great from the get-go or did it take a few issues for it to start rolling?

I was hooked on Saga rather quickly, I purchased the first trade after hearing about it then went to single issues. I like it enough to the point that I'll trade collect it and if there are eventually omnibus hardcovers collect those too.

I can understand, if just read as prose without the art, how it may not be someone' cup. But Staples art is AMAZING. With all do deference to BKV, the art is what propels this book to the top or near top of many a pull lists.

I was hooked right away. Again, the first issue coincided with my first baby, so it was excellent timing for me to fall for this story. I admit, it's a bit fluffy at the start, but that won't last long.

I love Saga, I do. That being said, it's not for everybody. I have plenty of friends who would much rather read Thor, Avengers and Batman than read Saga and that's totally fine. If everybody liked the same thing, the world would be boring. So feel free to feel how you do, it's what makes you you.

A lot of people read comics as an escape from reality, so they prefer super hero books. The drama in sage is based off of things that actually happen to people (minus all the robots, space wars, horns and wings) like having a baby that nobody thinks you should have or being in a relationship with someone of a different race. It's just amplified by the science fiction. It's pretty amazing that they created a world that is SO different than our own, but everybody can relate to all the characters (even Prince IV) on an extremely personal level.

I enjoy Saga but dislike another Image book. We all have different tastes in comics & that is okay. Best advice is give him another Image/IDW/Oni Press, etc book that suits his interests. Best of luck.

Ok so I've read 6 issues now and it definitely got better or maybe I just started to get it or maybe I got used to it. I like the basic meat of the story. The whole Romeo and Juliet on the run thing is exciting plus I like The Will. I will most likely keep reading it because I am interested to see where it goes.
What bothers me is the language. When I'm not at work or around my children my mouth can get a little filthy. I'm not a prude but it seems forced to me sometimes. It feels like someone figured out a matrix where they have to say the f-word a certain amount of times per issue to make it gritty. Feels like some of the stuff is nasty just to be nasty and not because the story calls for it. I look past that to get to the heart of it. That's what turned me off the first time and it continually disappoints me.
I generally prefer a cleaner style with more vibrant colors but the visuals are interesting. The art is well executed but not really my style. I thought The Stalk looked awesome!
I have a soft spot in my heart for children so I struggle with some of the pages.
It sounds like all I'm saying is negative but I really do like the overall package. It's definitely not the first book I'll read every week that it comes out but I will read it. If it were more vibrant and if it were a little cleaner it would be by number one book. The writing is brilliant when they stop trying to impress me with how many ways they can swear.
I have some predictions for the story so I'll be interested to see if it goes where I think it's going.
