Ok so I have this friend that doesn't like Saga and he's afraid to admit it because of the almost 100% guarentee of ridicule and hate mail he'll get from the comic book community if he says says it out loud. Personally I think he's crazy.
Are there others out there that aren't on the Saga train or should I tell him that he's alone? Is he an outcast amongst comic book nerds. I've talked at length to him about it but it's just not his cup of tea. It would help him if he knew that he wasn't alone.
He just doesn't get the appeal. What would you say to him if he were reading this forum? Why should he read Saga?
EDIT: btw He couldn't make it all the way through issue #1

I like Saga, but I probably don't hold it in the same high regard as most people. So I don't think he is crazy, it's all a matter of personal taste.

I don't think he is crazy, it's all a matter of personal taste. yeah, the world would be a pretty dull place if we all liked the same thing! however, Philyd - i would recommend that you encourage your friend to give the book another go. at least get through the first 2-3 issues, see if that doesn't get him sucked into the world, the story, and the characters...

I can understand. I got the first trade and never finished it. It's not for everyone. It is one of those books that people attack you for not liking it seems like but nothing is liked by everyone. I have seen some people on here list their pulllist and they don't have Batman on it. Now can you imagine that! No Batman on your pulllist. That's just insanity.

As much as i love Saga its not for everybody. There are elements in the book that not everybody will like but that's nothing to be ashamed of. There are a lot of books that almost everybody likes but that i just can't get into but that doesn't mean i'm wrong its just my opinion.

I want names! jk I guess I just here so many people talk so passionately about it. I feel like I'm, I mean my friend is missing the boat. It's one of those things that I my friend wants to like because of a social desire to fit in.

I like Saga, but it's far from my most anticipated book. It's certainly not in my top ten monthly comics, but then I read a lot of comics in a month I do find myself wondering what all the fuss is about sometimes, but there are a lot of things that are accepted as being "classics" or works of genius that I find myself scratching my head at. Each to his own.

It's weird I was listening to a podcast (not TC) sorry. They were talking about books that they liked and they put Sage and something else out of the conversation because it was in a different league so they were like picking their favorite books that weren't saga as if to say who's the greatest basketball player of the late 80's except for Michael Jordan.

He's glad to see that he isn't alone.

When people do things, like what you referenced in the podcast show, it really urks me. If your trying to have a real conversation about what is the best of anything then no one thing should be beyond reproach or what the hell is the point lol?

I like it, but I don't love it. I enjoyed the first two trades, but I haven't kept current, and I don't miss it that much. I'll read it one of these days, but it's nowhere near a must-read.

I would kiss Saga's ass, if it had one, but if we all liked the same books, TC would make for a very boring podcast. "Oh, I love that one, too!" "Yeah, me too!" "Let's talk about ho much we all love the same book for the same reasons!".
Tell your friend to speak his mind with pride, for it is having a mind of his own which makes him an interesting human.
I did mean that to sound like a line out of Avatar.

I think it's probably because of how weird it is. I imagine that it would come of as cheesy to some people.
Plus, some people just don't like science fiction. But I do want to add that my girlfriend who isn't into comics, and her friend (who happens to by my one comic buddy's wife) who also isn't into comics that much really really love it.
I would suggest at least reading the first 3 issues before passing judgement, but he's free to his own opinion!

Ok so I've decided (you guys figured out that I'm talking about myself right? if so thanks for playing along) to reread issue 1 and then read 2 and 3 and reevaluate. I'll check back after that.
