It's not often you get to say "I wasn't sure which way to go on Bob's Poll"

It's not often you get to say "I wasn't sure which way to go on Bob's Poll" Simon, Perhaps you should heed the wisdom of the Capone-era Chicago Mayor "Big" Bill Thompson, who famously said "Vote early and often!"

My vote is don't see it even with the free movie credit because at the end of the day it increases how many people saw it opening weekend. If would wait until Red Box or Netflix gets it and give you review based off of that. That being said, if the movie does well despite of people like us not seeing it then I would go see it with the card and put in your 2 cents to prevent people like us from falling into the hype trap based on people that don't care about the material and make movies like TMNT a success.

Ok this is related to the comment mentioned in the podcast about getting overrun with comics and how to deal with it.
So I have the same problem about having limited space. I have a method that I use that works pretty well, but I would also like to hear about others peoples methods to see if I can make it better.
1) I get the stories based on the format they were made for.
If it is a 6 issue story arc then I get it in trade If it is digital first I get it digitally If it is one shot story then I get it in single form (Warren Ellis does a lot of these)
2) Once I get something that represents the best of a character or team then I no longer collect more comics of that character.
It is not that I don't read more Iron Man or Avengers it is just I don't keep them after I read them unless the new story is so good it replaces the old one that I saved.
In some cases this might be just a trade of Black Panther in others might be the entire Brubaker Captain America run or Geoff Johns Green Lantern run depending on how it was written by the writer.
3) Give away comics I am not keeping.
Either because they are not as good as the Iron Man or Avengers I already have, I converted it to the trade, I have the digital copy, or it was a good read but just not worth keeping.
I collect these until I fill a full short box and then bring it to the office, give it to friends, etc.
Exceptions to the rule: Entire Peter David Hulk run in singles (I can't part with these) Chris Clarmont run of Uncanny X-men (not the entire run just what I collected as a kid) Star Wars comics (I can't help myself I know I should be getting these in trade but I seriously cab't wait) Ms Marvel (this is for my daughter to read when she gets older) Event hardcovers (stopped this for DC at new 52 and doing the same for marvel after secret wars)

Simon, Perhaps you should heed the wisdom of the Capone-era Chicago Mayor "Big" Bill Thompson, who famously said "Vote early and often!" Simon, I'm fairly sure that the "Faux-tastic Four" will open fairly strongly, if not at the level of the Marvel Studio films, perhaps in the $45 million range. Can it find an audience that will keep the numbers stable, or will it suffer a huge drop after the initial surge, that's way beyond my pay grade! As you can imagine, I'm in quite a quandry over seeing the film; not because I have any desire to make myself sadder than I already am, but I've this notion that I owe you good folks out there in Radioland that review from an involved party. As you say, and I agree with, by voting with even someone else's dime, I'm supporting this "ill-favoured thing", so at some level, I was hoping for the poll to help me out of this muddle...although I won't say on which side! So, is it: "To do a great right...do a little wrong." William Shakespeare "The Merchant of Venice"
...or is it instead... “You can't teach an old dogma new tricks.” Dorothy Parker

Bob,
(If you decide to see the movie in the theaters)
With your history with the Fantastic Four I think you would be able to provide great insight into the movie and let us know if it has any redeeming qualities. I'd be interested in hearing if it honors the source material and characters in anyway. It would be great to see what someone who knows nothing about the Fantastic Four thinks of the movie versus you who has a history with the characters.
I really appreciate all that you add to the podcast and website!
Josh

Bob I can understand the difficulty especially when it is creations so close to your heart.
On a purely selfish note I would be interested in hearing your thoughts about it on the podcast, from the personal in relation to it as a FF movie to how it stands up as a super hero movie overall. I think you bring an interesting perspective on movies in general and specifically comic book movies as you have seen them evolve and appreciate how far they have come both from FX, Actors to scripts.
The poll is interesting fun but no-one knows you better than you! so decide what you feel you can live with and I am sure you will feel the full support of everyone who matters to you.
As an International Podcasting Superstar I am sure you will make the right decision - for you.

That history with the characters and my chance to pass along some of it is probably the main reason I'm still waffling about hitting the theatre!

Simon, With #5 as my first issue, the Fantastic Four and I basically grew up together, so the Richards clan is in many ways more my family than most of my actual relatives, as I've spent many more hours in their company! That this amazing history may be distorted by creators who think their edgy "vision" of the characters trumps that of Stan Lee & Jack Kirby, whose creations not only began the Marvel Comics we know today, but wholly transformed comics story-telling, is what has me feeling that I shouldn't go within a mile of the cinema. That said, in tribute to those two titans, not to mention all the other giants who told FF tales that honored their work, I yearn to be able to provide the larger perspective on what the film does-or-doesn't do right, which will require my presence. This conflict will go down to the wire, I fear. Thanks for your good thoughts, Bob

Troops, Here's what's in my viewing queue for this evening: Not a bad way for a "Fantastic Four" film to end, right?

"That said, in tribute to those two titans, not to mention all the other giants who told FF tales that honored their work, I yearn to be able to provide the larger perspective on what the film does-or-doesn't do right, which will require my presence."to me this ^^ answers the question Bob. Go if only to be able to express an informed opinion instead of relying on others' perspectives. full disclosure, I voted "not a sellout". Yeah the principle of voting with your dollars is violated a bit, but sometimes a single man must rise up and make the tough choices to make sure others are saved from catastrophe or are guided to the promised land... ... and some might call that man a hero... I was going for stirring speech... did it work? How about this one: With great podcasting power comes great responsibility... ... to go see the movie the rest of us are afraid to so you can tell us whether it's good or just an affront unto the lord...
