So I finished Arkham Knight on Saturday night. And I mean, “What what!?”
I appreciate an ambiguous ending as much as the next person, but it’s that there’s so much left unexplained.
I choose to believe that Bruce fakes his death. Because he wouldn’t kill Alfred. And if someone killed them and blew up the house, that would definitely need to be explained. So I doubt someone else blew it up.
But then where is Alfred? Robin and Barbara and Nightwing are still around so it’s not like Gotham doesn’t have heroes. I mean it’s not dissimilar to Dark Knight Returns where he fakes his death, Alfred blows up the house and has a heart attack and then Bruce creates an underground army of Bat soldiers in secret.
But then there’s that freaky fire-ghost-fear-toxin-Bat ending.
So I’m thinking it’s one of 2 things. Batman/Bruce disappears/fakes his death. And he lets enough time pass. Then comes back using the fear toxin or possibly even something supernatural. Because everyone thinks he’s dead but not only that, they know he is Bruce so the “legend” kind of died with that reveal. So coming back as something otherworldly or using the fear toxin to appear that way makes them even more afraid because if he died, how is he back? Also there’s that Gordon “criminals are a cowardly and superstitious lot” so this would fall in line with that. A man in a batsuit was one thing. But a dead man back from the dead in the shape of a bat? Even worse.
OR I like the idea that Bruce and Alfred pull a Dark Knight Rises. Retire. Or possibly help from the shadows. But Gordon and the Gotham PD and possibly Robin/Nightwing/Oracle use the fear toxin against criminals and, because they still fear Batman somewhat, that’s what they see because some part of them will always have second thoughts that someone will stop them when they commit a crime.
And now they I say it out loud/type it, it makes more sense. And it gets you thinking rather than just THE END.
I also finished Harley’s DLC. Which was fun but soooooo short. I started Batgirls. Its longer and a lot more involved. I like it. I also like her fighting style. Feels better and more free flowing than Batman. I just really want the final DLC to basically be a patch that allows all characters to be playable in the full Gotham city. For a final game, that’s what everybody has wanted (well at least what I've wanted) so they should do it already. s
