This is an attempt at getting something started. So if it doesn't.... Well this is awkward.
Most of the discussion on this forum is about new comics. I'm a fairly young reader by comparison to someone who may have been reading for 20 years or something. Either way I get the feeling that so much new stuff is continuously coming out and getting everyone excited that its making it difficult for us to go back and read something old both because of cost and time.
Also reading reviews for something thats, say, 20-30 years old is hard because most of the time the reviewer is of that time os biased or simply speaking too objectively for you to gauge whether you want to read it. Newer comics come out and are new, fresh and exciting so you don't need to worry about history.
So I figured seeing as comics are monthly it could be a monthly thing so as to allow room for cost and so on. But it would be cool to, once a month, buy something old that you've never read. And treat it as something NEW. Regardless of whether its a graphic novel or something HUGE like Sandman. Something that you've always been curious about or too intimidated to try. And just buy the first volume to try. And then talk about it here, to give everyone a current idea of what the book is like. So many of us have such varying tastes as well that if for example I read and reviewed something negatively, someone else might view those negatives as something they would actually like. But its also a chance to try something you have maybe heard nothing but good things or nothing but terrible things about and just see for yourself.

Alright so I recently read Trillium for the first time. This is the first Lemire drawn and written book I have read. Overall, I enjoyed it and I will eventually get to some of his other work, such as sweet tooth.
I thought it was really good and once I got used to how Lemire was telling the story and I was less confused, I enjoyed it more. I will say this, because of the layout reading it on the comixology app is frusturating. As for the story itself, it felt a little compressed, I wish it would have been a couple of more issues to let the characters and the impending threat mature and develop.
Since this was my first real exposure to Lemire's art, it took me a little getting used to. However, after an issue or two I really started to like it and it really fit the story. In my opinion, he has very niche style and it may not translate as well to different stories.
Oveall, I liked the series and Lemire's work and I will be seeking out more of his work.

I try to do this periodically. My first big one was Watchmen which I read well after the fact, so it did not have the impact on me that it did on someone who did. But I read it after all the superheroes were "deconstructed". I treated it like a new book, and find it ehhhhhh. Steeped in 80s political mythos didn't help any either. Great idea though. At some point I'm going to read Miller's Batman the same way.

Vertigo recently put out a newer collection of 100 bullets. The first collection has the first 19 issues. I think that it is very very good. The art is amazing and it is a treat to read stories where the protagonist is not a hero and makes mistakes. I am awaiting buying the second volume, which just got released. Also, check out Planetary. The Omnibus has all the issues and although it is expensive, I think it is amazing.

Dark Knight Returns, if you've ever seen me with my picketing sign running around these forums like a crazy person, is my favourite thing of all time. I'm only 25 years old so the political nature of it has zero affect on me. I think just being aware and conscious that at that point in time it was important, is all you need. That book is all character. A lot of people have a problem with how Superman is portrayed but it services the story. Curious to see what you think. I'm also a huge fan of Dark Knight Strikes Again which massively divided fans. I recommend reading it. Its not a Batman story like DKR is, it's a Justice League story. The art isn't great. But again there are some amazing character moments. It's the Injustice universe before the Injustice universe. A cool 'What If?'

And I just finished the first 19 issue hardcover. That was the first problem, do I spend $10 on the first trade or bite the.... bullet? and put enough faith in the creators and fork out $50 for a hardcover so I'll end up with a nice consistant collection on my shelf. And that hardcover is so nice to look at.
But yeah, I love Azzarello's Wonder Woman run. I love Joker, Luthor, Knight of Vengeance, Broken City. Pretty much everything Azzarello has done mainstream. But 100 Bullets is a 100 issue run so I was always too daunted.
Read the first 19 issues in one sitting yesterday. Amazing. One of those books with such brief stories and characters that barely have the time to be developed yet feel like you know their entire history within the first page. And at the end of every arc I was yelling at them "Nonono you idiot! Don't do that!" because they're all such human characters. The story about the bartender having his life ruined by that woman? Man. That ending. Even how he handles being given the gun. In movie/comic land you'd imagine him being all "Great, this person ruined my life and I have al lisence to kill them now. Bang dead happily ever after." Nope. That first try where he's nervous and then gets caught and makes an excuse. I feel like thats exactly how I would have handled it, like an idiot. And Graves is such a great mysterious character. Like the Cigarette Smoking Man in X-Files, only appears briefly, but every time my eyes a glued. I hope to see more of Dizzy. What a great character.
I'll definitely keep reading this. An expensive undertaking especially in the case of these hardcovers. But I'm hooked. And Eduardo Risso's art is just amazing.

Finished 100 Bullets last week. One of the best series' I've ever read. Managed to get all 5 hardcovers which have amazing covers by Dave Johnson (wish he would do more interiors)
Such a solid ending. Curious if its worth reading Brother Lono?
But anyway I tried something else new thats old this week. Very late to the game with this one I assume.
Camelot 3000.
How is this not on every top 10 list out there? I may be one of the few here who hasn't read it until now but just in case, check it out. 12 issue series by Mike W Barr and Brian Bolland. Premise is basically taken from the King Arthur story The Once And Future King that King Arthur will come back and fight for England when he is needed again. So this takes that idea and sets it up in the future when aliens attack England and its King Arthur, his knights and Merlin all reincarnated.
But yeah I literally have never come across this in any of my searches for something new in regards to comics. Not when scouring Amazon or Goodreads recommend lists, comic site Best Of or Top whatever lists. Never heard anyone talk about it ever. It literally took me being bored at work, reading about stories inspired by Arhturian legends (I just started reading Once And Future King recently) and this was a footnote in Wikipedia of all things. Turns out its written by one of my favourite Batman writers and illusrtrated by one of the greatest comic artists.
Started and ended a few years before Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen came out but very much has a Watchmen feel to it, not just taking into account the 12 issue part of it. I'd rank this is one of my favourite graphic novels of all time.
Anyone who wants something quick and not ongoing, fantastical or sci-fi or both definitely buy this. Not expensive either which was a pleasant surprise.
