I really, REALLY didn't want to like this book because it would mean yet another ongoing book on my list every month. But it was amazing. Loved it so much. I've always loved Dustin Nguyens art but this is a whole other level of amazing.
It very much feels like a Saga/Y: The Last Man kind of story. I can see it leading off in to lots of fun tangents. And I also really enjoyed the planet index in the back. The descriptions of the planets have me super excited for whats to come not only story-wise but art. The ghost planet in particular.
This is the book I wanted Ody C to be. This has a huge universe with a planet index but at no point did I feel intimidated or annoyed at all the extra information I had to consume before/after reading it.
Clearly a lot of similarities to the movie AI but I love the movie and the universe created in it, so I'm more than happy for this book to be a bit derivative.

I was hooked the very first page; I thought the art was stunning! Never saw AI so it didn't seem derivative to me (though I did get hints of the last act from animatrix when Tim caught up on the news feeds), but I can understand why the book already got optioned for a movie: it just feels like a movie. from the little prologue at the beginning through the title page and through the rest of the book it feels like the setup of a great sci fi epic and I'm super excited to read more.

Tremendous first issue. I'm so hopelessly hooked; it's everything I hoped it'd be, so far. Gorgeous art, compelling story; what's not to love.

I heard a valid criticism that the first issue might've been better WITHOUT the first 6 pages or so, and I agree. Otherwise, I really loved this issue. I think we'll really come to like TIM.

amazing first issue, i want more of this ASAP.
I find this kind of interesting. While i was reading the intro essay to Lemires first book "lost dogs" he says for the two years leading up to him starting "Lost Dogs" he was working on a Si-Fi space epic. After pitching it to an organization that helps indie creators fund their projects and being rejected numerous times he gave it up and moved on to new projects. I wonder if "Descender" is that comic from all those years ago?

I picked this up after hearing it reviewed on the TC podcast, and so glad I did. Firstly the artwork is gorgeous. And secondly, it built such a great atmosphere and universe that by the last page I needed the next issue immediately! I enjoyed the page explaining all the different world's too. That got my imagination going. Normally I try issue 1's with the intention of trade waiting if I like them, but don't think I can resist picking up issue 2. Brilliant!
