I am having some trouble storing my ever growing collection. I get a ton of comics every month and on top of that I have about 12 big boxes full of old comics that i have been packing around since I was a little kid. I try to bag and board most of the ones that are important to me but, obviously, I can not afford to bag and board everything. I use short boxes and keep the b & b comics in those. My question is...what about my singles that arent protected? Do they hold up ok in short boxes? Would it be better to store then flat alternating spines in regular boxes? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Alternating spines does help. I've also found that sliding a thin piece of card into the box after every 10-15 comics helps to keep their shape.

Mine is a bit of a more strict approach. I got to the point where I thought if it's going to be in storage for years and years collecting dust whats the point of having it? Generally the story arcs and runs I love and will re-read I will buy in trade/hardcover anyway, so I wait until the end of a particular arc and sell off the set. The best thing about "collectors" who think comics are worth their weight in gold is that they still pay stupid amounts and I still get to read the stories. So stuff like Batman and Saga that I love and found difficult to part with I just ended up selling to make room.
Then there are the ones that you enjoy at the time but probably won't read again, or comics you bought on a whim/recomendation and they weren't that great. Depending on their popularity, I usually take them to one of the local stores that trades/buys back issues. You won't get all your money back. But its quicker than popping them up on ebay and waiting months and months and not getting a single interested buyer. And also they will eventually be bought by someone who wants to read them too.
I've managed to keep my collection down to 4 3/4 filled boxes (to make room for more) and they only consist of runs that haven't been collected in trade yet, sentimental comics, single issues that I love more than anything and occasionally doubles for books I hope to give to an interested person if it ever comes up in conversation.
