Saw this last night and loved the hell out of it. I don't know why its taken so long for Colin Firth to play a James Bond type character but I love it. His action sequences were amazing. And I loved that the "Hit-Girl" fight scene was played less for laughs and entertainment and more for "you should not like this and this is why". The "fireworks" sequence was amazing. And that ending. Such a great nod to the in-your-face inuendo in the Bond films. It made me miss the fun old Bond days. And it's got me crazy excited for Man From U.N.C.L.E.
Makes me curious how Spectre is going to play now that the quipping, gadgety English spy is making a comeback. Because Skyfall was a step both up and backwards (both in a good way) for Bond films where it still had that darker Casino Royal tone but didn't stray away from the crazy villain, cars and gadgets. I'm wondering if Spectre will keep in line with that.
Anyway, one thing I've noticed though is that Mark Millar definitely has great ideas but film adaptations seem to make his ideas work better than they do in his comics. I love Red Son and Civil War, but his Millarworld stuff lacks likeable characters or heart. Kick-Ass is a great movie, but I don't like the comic. Kingsmen as a comic bored me, but again the movie was amazing. I think thats why Kick-Ass 2 wasn't as much of a success. It felt more offensive, heartless Mark Millar again not to sound too harsh, I just think he sacrifices characters for shock. The first book didn't even have that romance element that was great in the first film. And the second one threw it out the window in a fleeting moment Alien 3 style.
But yeah, Kingsmen. A lot of fun. Definitely will be seeing it again. And man does it make me want to wear suits more often.
