If anyone is like me, and likes to have money to feed my self and my family, you are a bit tired of your monthly books being over priced.
I feel that the inclusion of the AR and the Digital editions being included are a part of this. Now, do any of you guys really care about the AR (It is NEVER utilized in any interesting ways) and the digi being included? Most comic book fans don't peel that sticker off for the digital code because they are more worried about it decreasing its potential value (Im not one of them). Atleast thats my understanding.
Why does marvel FORCE those things on us? Get rid of both of those things, and give us our 2.99 books back. Its getting ridiculous.

I like or liked the digital code thing before I went all digital but I am with you on the AR thing. It never really worked for me anyway. Left me feeling kinda deflated. The price of books is getting ridiculous but so is the price of everything else. In 15 yeara those of us that are still reading will lament the times when books were only $4.99

Following Tom Brevoorts responses on this tumblr page implies that the comics would cost that regardless of the digital code, AR etc. They throw that in to help ease the blow.

I used the AR once, when Tom Hiddleston was in it. I found the app very fiddly, though, and I didn't try it again.

I've already gone on way too much in here about how I feel about $4 and $5 books; probably shouldn't rehash it yet again (needless to say, i'm not a fan, and see those prices as destructive to the market and the medium, and as outright shameless and indefensible price-gouging). But addressing the sub-query at hand, neither AR nor the digital codes do anything for me whatsoever; I don't have a tablet or a smartphone, and don't plan on having either any time soon. They're a total MacGuffin, meant to distract you with one jazz-hand over here to the right while the other robs you blind on the left.

Nope, don't really care. You can also check those things out on the Marvel Unlimited app, and most of what i saw was about the editors explaining stuff, or joking about something...no thanks.

I agree, AR is useless and quite honestly to try to use it while reading interrupts my enjoyment. It's like watching a movie with the directors commentary on.
I do like the digital code, I travel regularly for work and having the code allows me to collect the physical copies I want and take them on a plane without having to pack another suitcase.

seems like alot of agree, for the most part.
I find it extremely hard to believe that the digi included and the AR feature NOT influencing the price. Whatever the case may be, my main reason for purchasing less and less from marvel is their prices. Most of my dc pull list is filled with 2.99 titles, and im comfortable with that.
especially since marvel loves doing events all the time. I already dont want them, but if all the marvel books i read were 2.99, i would probably pick up a few of the tie ins. But i just cant do that at the 4 and 5$ price point.

If price becomes too much of a hurdle and if you have access to a decent tablet I strongly recommend the Marvel Unlimited app. There's a six month wait on newer issues being added but it does give you access to all the monthly books and a HUGE collection of back issues for less than $10 a month. I'm currently doing a read through of X-Men & Avengers and love it, using it even more than my Comixology app.

The Unlimited app is the way to go for people that have a money crunch.

couldn't say personally one way or the other on whether those things affect the price, but I know I never use them. I actually had to google AR to figure out what it meant (maybe I'm just an old fart?) and if I wanted a digital copy of a book I would just purchase the digital copy to begin with and save myself some space in my hobby room.
The thing that gets me is more of the image titles I buy are $2-3 and the quality is fantastic, so it makes no sense that a big player like Marvel would make the claim that their costs are higher to justify a higher price tag (plus their books seem half full of ads). But then they can charge whatever the market will bear, so until everyone straight up stops buying books at that price point (I think there are too many spider man, x-men and avengers fans out there for that to happen) I think we'll keep seeing the higher prices.

Have zero interest in AR but the print & digital is surely a good thing. It reminds me of the band Shellac who always include a unbranded CD version of their record in with the vinyl edition. At the same price as the CD only version.

the digital code is great because I redeem it and then am able to sell the physical issue after I read it.

I was going to pick up Star Wars #1 yesterday but I saw the $4.99 and didn't grab it. Honestly I think there are really great books at $2.50 to $3.99 I flipped through the Star Wars and it looked like a regular sized issue with a bunch of splash pages in the back so... pass. It sucks, but $4.99 is just too much for me to spend on one comic.
