Specifically, what was the first ongoing series that you picked up month to month. Mine was Jeff Lemire's Superboy. I had just gotten into comics and was reading stuff like Watchmen, The Dark Knight Returns, Killing Joke, John Byrne's Man of Steel and Blackest Night. I am a huge Superman fan and wanted to jump on to the current comics. When I saw Superboy #1 on the shelf of my LCS, I picked it up and read it until it was cancelled for the New 52.

That's a tough one (but I like it!); that's going back quite a ways. I'm not entirely sure, because there were a few that I started reading somewhat simultaneously, but it would probably have to be either Uncanny X-Men (towards the end of Claremont's run, just before the launch of the Claremont/Lee adjective-less X-Men title) or Amazing Spiderman, both circa late-1989 (like so many others, I was a Batman '89 comic convert). One of those two, for sure.

Great question...I am going to parrot Tony and say Amazing Spider-man or Uncanny X-Men. As a kid I had subscriptions to both and when I jumped back into reading comics again after a 20 yr hiatus these were the first 2 books I gravitated towards and made a effort to catch up on. Now My reading selection is much more diverse, but I still love these books and probably always will...

don't even remember which one back when I started back in the late 80s /early 90s.... maybe CyberRad from Continuity Comics? I think that might have lasted about 5 issues before I went over to Uncanny X-Men like everyone else though the first one I scooped up when I got back into comics as an adult was Powers: Bureau though

Not sure but it had to have been one of the X-Men books from the 90s.
I got into comics through the animated show from the 90s, and a book store in my little town happened to have a lot of X-Men or X-Men spin off books at that time, they were even translated to Dutch, something i don't see as often anymore.I'm talking about Uncanny X-Men, Generation X(loved that book!), Cable, and Wolverine.I don't remember everything that happened in those books anymore, but i do remember it was during the Zero Tolerance event(which had the debut of Bastion, i think)

For me it was X-Men and Wolverine during the Fatal Attractions cross over in the early 90's.
Picked up #25 and #75 together and continued on from there.

2000ad
The first US monthly would have been Denizens of Deep City, a fantastic much neglected 'realism' series from Kitchen Sink. Sort of Building Stories minus the bee gubbins.
