After this weeks show I picked up Supergirl #36 and really, really enjoyed it. And I was hoping to ask the TC guys this on Twitter but that pesky word count got in the way, but: You guys said the start of the New 52 Supergirl run was really good but got ruined by He'l on Earth and the Red Lantern stuff. Just curious, is the good stuff still a satisfying read or does it get ruined by the bad?
Because I've been picking up a lot of early New 52 stuff now that got cancelled or changed teams and finding a lot of it really enjoyable but there's a fine line between stuff that was good, the story got wrapped up and then it got bad so you never feel satisfied with the story, or it has a definitive ending for each arc and you can read it as its own thing, eg; Action Comics. I love the Morrison story, and that gets wrapped up when the creative team changes.
Also I feel like this a definitely a Bob question, but is the Peter David run from 98' any good?

Henry, The first dozen or so New 52 Supergirl issues are still well-worth reading, and are very much in spirit with this new one, so it might read as a seamless transition. As to PAD's run, it was a story of the replacement/post-Crisis "Matrix" Supergirl, and not Kara (but very much informed by her, and respectful to her, which you'll see if you read it!), but it was excellent...and sort-of continued into his creator-owned Fallen Angel series that began at DC and then went to IDW.

As someone who has read the New 52 Supergirl straight through, I think this new team is the best thing for the book in a long time. The H'el on earth stuff was pretty lame, as were the "Doomed" tie ins which also killed the Superman / Wonder Woman book for me and ultimately caused me to take it off my pull list (though the last issue with the new team was a lot better). The Red Lantern stuff was actually not too bad. It made sense, given the kind of adolescent lashing out that Kara was doing, that she might become a Red Lantern, and there were some nice moments of mentoring between her and Guy Gardner. But I think this new direction is going to be much more worthwhile since she'll hopefully have a chance to actually learn and grow.
Also, if you like the character, check out some of what Lemire is writing in Justice League United. In some ways, I think Supergirl is an odd choice for any kind of team book, but thus far I have liked how they have incorporated her into that book.

I've also been on the ride the whole time and with this new team, i could finally sigh with relief! In my opinion its doing exactly what a supergirl book should be doing! And its fun! They forget the fun part quite often these days.

So I picked up volumes 1 and 2 and have skipped everything after and have been reading from 36 onwards. Pretty seamless, give or take a quick look online as to whats happened between then. And I'm loving it so much.
My only critisism (which I never like to give because hey, if you like something why not just shut up and like it) but its because it was the first time I've ever come across this: The final page/reveal from A LOT of the issues of Supergirl end in a giant monologue from the villain. And it really brings it to a screeching halt. Because that last page reveal is usually a splash page and should be like "Whoa! big reveal! Now I can't wait for the next issue" but I noticed it a fair few times with Supergirl that its the splash page but then like 5 paragraphs of talking from a single character. It feels like a punchline to a joke that you get but then the person explains it to you anyway.
Other than that though no complaints. Really never expected to be reading Supergirl and now I'm excited about it.
