just perused Marvel's May solicitation list and.... ugh.. I don't even know what I'm looking at. the main secret war book starts but then there are a bunch of obvious tie-ins as well as a bunch of books that looks like they are probably tie-ins but maybe not, some of the normal books keep chugging along without appearing to acknowledge secret wars is a thing.... my head.... spinning...
hypothetically I will be looking at maybe the main secret wars book, probably the secret wars 2099 book (I'm a fan of the 2099 stuff), and maybe the spider-verse book. I'm not sure about he spider-verse one though, as aside from spider-gwen and Mayday I don't really care for the rest of the cast. maybe if they had replaced spider man india with Sp//dr and spider man noir with Lady Spider? replace spider UK with ultimate Jessica Drew? then just drop spider ham and replace him with spider-speed-buggy and we could have something like a modern day spider themed josie and the pussycats kind of thing going on. A-Force got nothing on the spider-women and their somehow sentient spider dune buggy! but how would Sp//dr fit in speed buggy.... not to mention none of the others speak japanese....

I see the way they are going to do it is slowly phase out books as Secret Wars continues....instead of hitting us all at the same time. I like that, as it gives times to some books to end their arcs. Also some seem to be close to ending (like Amazing Spider-Man, DD, Captain Marvel, GOTG, etc).
From this month I know I will be getting the following books:
Secret Wars Infinity Gauntlet Old Man Logan Ultimate End A-Force Spider-Verse

I really hope secret wars doesn't do what spiderverse did. Anytime something cool happened in spiderverse, the characters involved jump thru a portal, then they tell you if you want to see it go buy another issue. nd they did that over and over. If secret wars does that, I will be so disappointed

different books are at different time periods in 'continuity' so there's no reason to stop them durng Secret Wars, or at least stop them right away.

The only books I care about stopping is ms marvel, Thor and cap marvel. I don't want to have to get my fill of them by reading secret war tie ins. I'm just buying the main book.

I keep hopefully thinking that the 616 will exist in some for in the multiverse
This is where things like Ms Marvel Moon Knight Shield Squirrel girl Antman Hawkeye
Would exist that clearly cannot live in the announced worlds
It is either that or you have a lot just start to immediately end which does not make sense
If they don't do

my limited understanding is the titles like squirrel girl, hawkeye or moon knight might have an awareness of secret wars but it won't necessarily be a big part of their storylines... can't recall where I got that idea, so take it for what it's worth I guess

Well, from what I get is that the newer books like All-New Hawkeye or Howard the Duck are happening before Secret Wars (chronologically) but at least for the time being won't be affected by it at all (most likely after Secret Wars ends and IF we get a new Universe/Earth, the will continue but chronologically will be after Secret Wars and possibly be acknowledged in the story).
And of course the books with "Last Days" banner are happening on the last day/hours (depending on the book...and in the special case of Silver Surfer, after) of the 616 Universe before Secret Wars/Battleworld happens.

We are two issues in and I'm really loving this event so far, I'm actually excited for the tie-ins in this case. You guys digging it also?

I LOVED the first 2 issues, Hickman and Ribic have done an outstanding job. I haven't felt this invested in an event since Civil War or maybe even Age of Apocalypse back in the 90's......I actually WANT to read all the tie-ins now!

I think the fact that #2 was the 2nd of only 3 books I managed to read last night shows me that my anticipation for this story from #1 was higher than I had realized and I think with pretty good reason.
I'm really enjoying the artwork and overall tone of the book, the lack of 'smash-you-over-the-head' explanations just adds to the overall mystery behind events and it feels like there is a relaxed freedom to the storytelling due the nature of the set-up. I'm not collecting any tie-ins so will have to see what those that do feel they add to main book - very satisfying so far and not the direction I had anticipated.

finished #2 last night (#1 must have grabbed me enough to warrant another purchase:P ) and I liked it better than the 1st issue. This is the book people should start with if they haven't been keeping up with the avengers. No background is necessary except for a couple pages at the end that might lose the new reader and the book does an excellent job of letting you know what the deal is without resorting to random exposition; it's all in the story of the new Thor Corps (I don't know if that is what they are called but it sounds good) recruit.
I didn't want to like it, but it's been good enough that it'll probably keep me reading the main series and I will read the tie ins when they show up on Marvel U.

Hickman actually stated in an interview with CBR that he wanted issue #2 to be the first issue of Secret Wars, but it seems like editorial wanted the cataclysm to kick it off in issue #1.
