I was beginning to wonder if I had imagined the book "Island of the Blue Dolphins. It was my favourite book from primary school and I loved the protagonist. Her resourcfulness and strength really connected with me, especially as it was the only book I had studied with a female protagonist. I can only remember two more since then. Top of my list of most influential childhood books is the Animorphs series. I could spend hours talking about those books and their characters and many a friend has suffered through such lectures.

I've been rereading Island of the Blue Dolphins. I completely forgot where she saved an otter and then played with its eventual babies. Feels!
